Hello everyone..
I started building at almost the same time as this site started and have watched it grow, change and evolve into what I personally think is the best model building site on the internet.
I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say change to something you enjoy so much can seem a little threating, but as I've watched the site come into its own and how much better its become over the years, then I say to lend our support and see what happens after the changes start. This just may be the start of the World wide web Armorama domination....
and who knows someday there might be Armorama Club Chapters all over the world right up there with IPMS and AMPS and such......
:-)

It will be nice to see Armorama get back to its roots.

Although Jim is the Master, I am the Commander and I must admit that, like centurys ago, I am going on uncharted waters!
The good thing is that I know I won't fell out of the world and that the crew trust me and the other members involved - the spirit of Warships is great and it will remain so.
This is growing and letting go the "wet part" of armorama... set sail a Discover a new world.
(actually, it will not be new, but different and bigger)
If you visit modelshipwrights right now, it will look scarce in content, almost naked, but as Jim stated, we need some time to make it full spead ahead!
So guys... If you ever feel the urge to make a warship, like some of you have once in a while, drop by and you will not feel strangers - as usual
Thanks all, for the support

The harsh reality of seeing all the ship posts and content 'brutaly' removed does leave a bit of a sad feeling of 'loss', but it will no doubt work out in the end.

I visited Model Shipwrights and logged in using my current Armorama log in ID, that part went well. When I went into the forums, most of the the user names and avatars were blank (avatars were red Xs) except for Rui/Skipper and a few others. I could see his avatar, user name and real name just fine. I could also see a user named Jess and MartinJQuinn and their avatars.
Am I doing something wrong or is the site still showing signs of teething problems?

Hi Robin
Same thing happened to me, and then I figure it out!
All the members that have already loged in in MSW will show name / Avatar - the lot!
Until they do - there is a blank situation, and even the "my Profile" button associated with that post doesn't work
Jim has identified this as a cookie issue
Thanks for your input

Hi Rui
Good luck with your voyage of discovery! It's very fitting that Warships is the first of us to go solo - after all, you are the Senior Service!
I went across to MSW and logged in OK - and added a post to the Flattops thread. I got an error message saying the post could not be sent - but then the screen re-drew and my entry was there after all.
All the best

What 'roots' would those be.... strictly armour?!?
I realize that I'm in the minority here... As a modeller that spends equal time building all that it has to offer, the diversification of this site is what attracted me in the first place. A site that encompassed my many varied tastes in modelling all under one banner. To see this fragmented, is a shame. When I logged in today and noticed that the ship forums where no longer there, it lost it's appeal to me.
To those of you that feel that this site should be strictly an armour site, I feel for you, for by limiting your interests to such a narrow path, you have done a great injustice to the hobby, and to yourselves.

Frank,
You make it sound so personal... the only reason for the shift is to give ship - figure - aircraft modelers their own "space". The site is the site. You call it Armorama, I call it an engine, a database, a community. It's only a "banner" if you make it about that.
Besides... are we marching off to do battle or something? :-)
There will be a "banner" site one day that will do the function of what Armorama did (provide a homebase for all the different focus areas). It just isn't ready to deploy right now until the other sites are up and running. Until then I just ask a little patience.
Thanks,
Jim

It's all still the same big Family..... I think it's a good thing from an Admin POV.... to split it as it is growing....
I'm sure it'll help with outages and such by "splitting"
the Site into segments.....
BUT there are still a few "grey areas" like the BWN of Vietnam......

I agree completely Frank, however, the reality is that the site will (at some point in the future) become really unwieldy, that's (partly) why the decision has been taken.
I welcome (in particular) the arrival of ModelShipwrights.com as much as I admire the 'Big' sites, they are perhaps a touch 'intimidating' for those of us who don't have the knowledge base of the 'specialists', in that it will certainly be more accessible. Inevitably of course there's going to be 'crossover' into areas like Landing Craft and (dare I say ) Naval Aviation, all these things will inevitably strengthen rather than weaken...Jim

Hi Frank
I understand your feeling and it was my first feeling too - until I got it right!
It will continue to work as before, the differences being it has a specific domain, a slightly different layout, but everything will continue the same - all that it is needed is for Jim to sort out some "gremlins" that are still alive
I have found you a most valuable member and I would hate you to leave for this particular reason!!!!

Personal.... Impatient.... Hot-headed,.... whatever you want to call it,... I'm guilty of it. I will try and curtail my judgements until the final changes are visible.

Yes, armor roots. I came to this site when it started as an armor and armor diorama modeling site. Things were much simpler back then. Like you, my modeling tastes vary. Many of the members here that know me have seen the mass of kits I have. While the vast majority of my kits are armor of all scales, I dare say that I have more car, plane, sci-fi, figure and ship models than most modelers who only build car, plane, sci-fi, and figure or ship models. In fact, I’ve won IPMS awards for car, boat, figure and sci-fi models as well as armor and softskin models.Quoted TextIt will be nice to see Armorama get back to its roots.

I never said I felt the site should be a strictly armor site and in fact, I was probably the member who asked that the site include a space/sci-fi forum in the first few months the site was online.
I like the fact that Armorama has all areas of modeling under one roof, but it will be nice to see them all get a home of their own under the overarching Kitmaker banner. I keep reminding myself to take advantage of the hide user button.

I wish you would. That way I wouldn't have to be your personal punching bag everytime I make a comment or a spelling mistake. For someone of your 'authority', you have proven to me over and over just how questionable you are as an editor on this site. I'm not sure what I've done to irk you, let just hope, for the sake of this site and potential new members that it's isolated to me. Someone with higher authority should rein you in!

Hmm, an editor that points out spelling mistakes. You'd think that something like that would be expected.
