I know this has been asked before so hopefully one more time won't hurt. What is the predominant color used on American armor during and after WW2? I would like to know if using Model Master Olive Drab is at all correct or is the color closer to MM Green Drab?
Thank you,
Gary K

Not again... The OD debate continues.
US vehicles were painted OD Green. Depending on paint manufacturer, how it was applied, batch, weathering on the vehicle, light level in the picture, camera angle, etc., etc., etc.... It ranges from dark to light and everywhere in between. There is no perfect shade of OD Green. Pick one you like and go with it.

I think if you use Model Master's Dark Green (FS 34079) for WWII and Tamiya's Olive Drab (TS-5) for after WWII (both numbers in the spray can), you can't be too far off.

Sorry, I knew I had seen this debate before but I see so many model American Tanks painted in what appears to be dark green but when I trained in the US Army back in the late 60's, I remember equipment which appeared to me to be more of the faded Olive Drab color?! Thanks for your advice and any comments are greatly appreciated!

For those of us like me who have more than 1 U.S. tank or vehicle in our display case I can say I like to vary the shade a bit and use different colors, shades, and makers of Olive drab paints and the use of different weathering techniques also vary the shade so that my collection doesn't look like it was all painted at the same time on same assembly line..
as said before.. close enough for goverment work.. after all a lot of paint was made by the lowest bidder...

For the same reason as Delbert, I mix mine up. I blend combo's of Model Masters faded OD, OD, Medium Green, and Green drab to get different shades. As has been pointed out in previous threads, there is no "best" . Chose your poison and go with it, it is all pretty much accurate at some time or another.
