This may have been asked before but I am seeing people painting the VVSS return rollers both OD and black.

Was this part rubber or metal?

I am working on an M4A4 if that matters. I looked at my color shots of restored vehicles and they seem to be painted OD but I don't know if that is overspray or delibertly done.

Any guidance appreciated since I drew a blank using google.

All steel Rob, but the OD will wear of very quickly to a 'shiney' metal finish. Try using Graphite.

VVSS return rollers and idler wheels were all steel, so paint/weather accordingly.

Gday Rob
Often you'll see the rim of each bogey wheel worn to a shine by the inside of the end connectors on the track...

In this pic it is the rusted rim below the "Goodyears"

Whilst on the subject of wheels and tyres, the Sherman tyres where subject to a lot of damage, due to the track 'trapping' things like stones.
