Forgive me, I'm a airplane modeler. I Plan on doing these in a unit(s) of the 4th Armoured Div., In late 1944, I just don't know which unit(s) yet. Can anyone answer the above. I prefer Testors MM or Humbrol, all enamels.

the FS# is 34087for the olive drab, butin the brit section of testors mm rack they have an ANA section for the englishi have an example of what to look for with the MM line in the brit colours

For British vehicles in the required time frame, I'd suggest Khaki Drab. In the Humbrol range, it's number is 159.

Weren't most of the canadian armor in NW europe OD green?? Or some shade or dark green? You should pick up the dragon NW europe commonwealth troops to go with the carrier and achilles, make yourself a nice canuck dio.

Posts above mention 34087 (I like model master, but there are others) and Humbrol Khaki Drab 159. Both are appropriate for Commonwealth vehicles, but allow me to spout off as I have used both.

The Humbrol is very green and quite bright in tone; looks to me a lot more "British" and really not far off their "bronze green". Looks pretty good on a Firefly, IMO.

The 34087 OD is rather more brown, and personally I would go this route for an Achilles or indeed any Canadian subject from the fall of '44 onward. This is because the Canadians specified Khaki Drab #15 which is nearly identical to 34087 and saved them the trouble of repainting US lend-lease equipment. The two colors would in any case be virtually indistinguishable after about six hours in the field; what with dust, mud, fading, petroleum distillate spills, and everything else that an AFV is subjected to.

Don't beat yourself up or get dogmatic about color selection, as weathering could create a nearly infinite palette to choose from. Unless your subject is brand new, like on D-Day itself or is clearly some new toy being admired immediately after issue, there's immense room for interpretation.

The comment on Dragon's Commonwealth figures is a good one; I also recommend highly Tamiya's British Infantry on Patrol. Canadian troops differed from British only in the colors of uniforms, not in the style or web gear. Now, I don't have the Dragon set (unfortunately) but I think they have the usual Mk. 2 helmets, as does Tamiya. Nobody, it seems, makes the Canadian Mark 3 pattern used by the Canadian 3rd Infantry division in NW Europe.

The Dragon Commonwealth set #6055 is of the 4th armored division/10th can inf brigade the Algonquin regiment. The set does include the Mk III pattern helmet, 2 of them anyway. It was my understanding that the Mk III's were issued only to the canadian assult troops on D-day. And that they were never widely used in other regiments during WW2. The figures look great and include the american style cloth ammo slings that the canucks used and the spare barrel case for the bren gun. I also highly recommend the Tamyia brit inf on patrol, much better than the 8th army desert rat figures.

Coincidently I'm working on a Canadian WWII subject right now. I've chosen Model Master Acryl ANA613 - Olive Drab for the vehicles. There was considerable variability between batches of uniform cloth. Enough so that frequently individuals had different shades of tunics and trousers. I would use FS30118 Field Drab tinted with some sand like colour to in varrying degrees on each of the soldiers you want to model.
