I've been busy working on a base for my Tiger I , I've got most of the work done now ..I'm still waiting for my figure that will be standing in front of the table ...and the equipement needs a good dusting with some pigments...(yes I know the barrels look a bit glossy ) Let me know what you think...
all the best

Rick I like everything but the spent shells. If this is a refueling, maintainace scene, why are they just strewn about? If they were not ejected in combat, I wonder if they would just be handed out to someone and stacked for reloading? (Did they do that?) Wouldn't want to toss one out and hit someone (ie a mechanic working on your tank!) with one.
Love the badge too, Nice touch.

Hey Richard
Nice looking model and set. I have to admit I like it very much. Are you goning to put a crew with as well or not??
I love the badge where did you found that???
You might have darkened the ammo crates a little bit to much.
About the shells don't worry. When I made a run with my tank and we resuply our ammo we throw the shells out as well. Just scream that every boddy has to be carefull, that works

Well thanks for the comments guys... Hi John well I made sure all the shells were in the general area so they were thrown but with care... :-)
Roel when the dio is completely finished it will have the three figurines from Alpine on it but for the show this weekend it will only have one ...my friend ran out of time ... here is a link to my figure so far...

Rick, Its looking great. I started out thinking like John was about the shells, but what Roel says makes sense. Looks to me like you should do very well with it at the show. Cheers and good luck my friend. Kevin

Richard -
As usual your quality research, time/effort, approach, attention to detail makes everything come together beautifully. Love everything about it (badge is great touch) and with the crew figures added, it will be truly outstanding. Only thing I can think of is a very minor addition for something on table related to crew? Maybe canteen or like a map case? And maybe a 'water' marked jerry can or two? Not necessary by any means, just added touches. Great job and good luck (though I doubt you'll need it, as quality always stand out) at the Show.

Hey Bear:
Uh, that almost sound like speaking French,
. . . er' . . . well, . . perhaps phonetically, eet duz.
Love your presentation. A very simple base but so
well done in all phases. I read with relish. . . sans
mustard. . . the book series "Armor for dummies" so
I can't comment on those arty shells. Your composition
is just supurb. And I love the empty corner in the back
right corner. I personally feel that open space can be
good in a strong composition. I don't feel that each
space should have something in it. And your
composition proves that for me. This is just an
opinion, you remember. I've seen dios with cluttered
base from East of Eden to West of Frisco and some
times they look OK. Anyway, just a very nice job.

I like the concept. As an old tanker, I will concur with the floks by agreeing, you just toss the empties out in a pile. You don't want them rolling around on the floor of the tank period. It is dangerous enough in tank gunnery, but in combat it could prove to be fatal. Like to see the finished product. crew stand ing around with a map some water and cigarettes while refueling and arming sounds like a great idea. I did one of those several yars ago only mine was at Normandy and I added some support infantry folks (check out my gallery, I think it is still there)

Beautiful job Rick! The base really compliments your Tiger. I like the small touches like the spent shell casings, and the panzer badge, they really set it off nicely. It's nice to know I'm not the only person around who needs to work on their figure painting abilities. :-) I need to find a friend like Denis, I have a couple of Alpine figures I need to get done as well.
Best,
Mike

Agree with the bird man here... And some of his other incessant ramblings...hehe (Wasn't Hey Bear a QB for the Saints?)
Has come up well, Rick... You should be proud of it...
One minor nitpick, and this is only an opinion... The grain looks too contrasted on the crates? I would tone it down a lil... Don't go wrecking anything before the show though
Best of luck

Hey guys thanks again for all the comments ..When I got home from work last night ,I decided the base was a bit too uniform in color ...so I took everything off the base and using sand colored pigments went over the base.... I then glued everything in place after changing things around a bit... I added a map and a pack of cigarettes to the table ..I did lose the pitcher that I had on the table (don't ask) but I am in the process of painting another one along with a cup to go on the table as well..
I stacked the ammo boxes instead of leaving them side by side ..and yes I did leave the ammo thrown on the ground...
I dusted up most of the gear ...I see by the picture I forgot the wooden box on the edge ...(I'll fix that )
I also flat coated the wooden barrels and gave the Jerry cans another dark wash...
this picture shows the variations in the sand colors...
This is the first time I've screwed down the tank to the base ...I was wondering about this ..will I lose marks for the screw showing ? if so I can undo it, but I like the idea of everything being solid .. what do you think?
just a couple more pictures ...
So is it better or worse? your opinion means a lot to me.

Again, very nice Rick! The only thing I might change, like Bradley said above, maybe tone down the grain on that wooden box some. (and the dust may do that) As far as the screw goes I secure all my models that are on a base in this way. I just feel better knowing they aren't going anywhere without a great deal of effort. The judges around here have never gigged me for it, if the judges up your way do gig you then I say screw them. :-) (pun intended)

Your dio looks great. The only thing that I see is the fact that the tank sort of looks like it is sitting on the sand. A vehicle of this kind of weight would definately sink in abit. Could be the pics thou.
I like the crates and barrels. The details makes this look good. Cant wait to see the figs in it.

Hi Brian...well yes it is sitting on the sand if you want but it is supposed to represent a very hard ,rocky type of ground ...the tank is screwed down tight so I think it makes sense...

Rick, I think it looks pretty good. The Tunisian Tiger has been one of my favorite African armor pieces. What color did you use for the tank kit? The water cans in amongst the fuel cans and barrels seem out of place. Troops tend to keep food & water away from fuel.
The badge adds a nice touch.

From one Rick to another:
As it seems my "secret(?)" has been found out by my
Aussie friend, Honeycut, I'm back with more of my
insessant ramblings! :-) :-) :-)
And BTW, Honeycut, I'm impressed. I didn't know
you muddlers down under paid any attention to the
American NFL football teams. Great catch with the
'aints and Hey Bear. . . where was I
Re that screw that you said shows, Rick and how
would the judges react; what would they think? I could
see where it could make a difference, but that would
be a very rare case in my view, where you and another
armor model were running neck and neck and they
were trying to find some little "gig" that would put
one model a head of the other, to determine the
winner. But the chances of this happening over such
a small point, is slim and none, in my view.
You didn't say how visable is the screw. Now IMO,
if its way back toward the center of
the tank undersides and required a viewer to bend
way down in order to see it, I'd say no problem. If it
is easily visable from standing above, I'd paint it a
very dark color and sprinkle a little "terra firma" over
the screw. You might say that would be the "Taming
of the Screw". :-) :-) :-)
My sincere apologies to Herr Shakespeare . . .
