I've got an Academy M113 interior along with a few extra radios to drop into the Tamiya M577 but haven't been able to find much info on the interior of a Vietnam era M577.

Anyone have any tips, photos or info on the radio layout, fuel tank and the use or disuse of the bench seats?

Thanks,
Sherb

M577 interior and an M113 interior are very different. It isn't just a drop the M113 interior in deal. The floor, walls, and TC pole and stand (repositioned on the front wall) are about all that you can use. Down both sides are fuel tanks on top of the track overhangs. Tables on top of them. Radio shelves on the side walls near the top. Two seats that look like driver's seats, or stools in the middle. Usually map boards on the walls opposite the radios. The crew seats are sometimes left on the right side to carry extra personnel too. They are folded up when not in use.

Here are some pics of an M577A2, which has the same interior layout.

Hope that helps.

You're absolutely right Kevin. There is no way to stump this guy.
Thanks for the help Gino!

Interesting little partition over by the drivers station.

The M577 was (is?) also used as a first aid station by battalion medic detachments in my mech inf bn. This required yet another re-arrangement of the interior to handle the litter racks, etc.

Thanks guys. I have just picked it up here and there and from spending many years bouncing around the back of M577s. Google helped with the pics too.

Yup, it is still used as an armored ambulance in Mech IN and AR Bns as well as at the BDE Support Bn and Div Support Bns' Charlie Med companies. Not that much harder to make it into an M577 Ambulance though. The basic M577 interior from above is still there. The chain and strap system to hange the litters from is the additional gear. It is made up of bars with hooks on the outside, with chains and hooks toward the center of the vehicle.

Here is how it looks on an M113 Ambulance, just longer poles and chains for an M577 to hold 6 litters as opposed to 4 on the M113.

Good luck with it.
