John its WOW, thats about all I can say. You need to be one of the instructors when they start doing the AFV paint class. I'm going to keep looking at this thing until I find something to nitpick :-) but I think I will be looking a heck of a long time. Fine job so far. Kevin

John,
Man, I love that shade of Panzer Gray .... very little blue, if any at all. Tamiya, I presume ...?
This model has all the makings of something memorable. Everywhere I look I see something else (kinda like a Tarantino movie!). Exceptional craftsmanship, my friend. What did you use to replicate that subtle dust accumulation?
Simply captivating! Can't wait to see it with it's legs on!
BTW, we have contact with MMiR and I think it's a go!

Im drooling John :-)

Very very nice , the decals on the turret side hatches look great and the optics in the cupola add that extra realsm.

Im curious though , after the base coat and obviously painting the details etc , what process did you follow regarding washes etc ? , the reason i ask is because I normally use a darker colour for a pin wash like a mixture of black and burnt sienna , but yours appear lighter and more like accumulated dust/grime and looks particularily effective against the panzer grey.

Outstanding work John. So many great details. It's incredible how much life(In lack of a better English word) you've given the single color paintsceme.

Will you be joining the afv paintclass? as instructor of cause.

Very nice,John. The exhaust rust looks especially nice. What will hold the upper section of spare track on the glacis plate? Gravity,or are there some type of clamps you will add?

Thanks guys, lets see If I can get you some answers.

Kevin - Armor paint school sounds fun, just have to find the time.

Mike - Its actually a combination of Tamiya and Vallejo Greys in different layers, not mix together. The Dust is pin washes of a custom mix of Oil paints in turpenoid.

Ian - here is my order of business
1. Base coat
2. Post shade (2 times for horizontial surfaces)
3. Detail paint
4. Gloss coat
5. Decals
6. Semigloss coat
7. Filters and streaking
8. Flat coat
9. pin wash
10. weathering wear
11. Wear and tear marks

Marcin - To do this you need well applied decals that have been sealed. I then use the base color in a dry brush and just work over the area.

Vinnie - Do we get to see some progress pics?

Henk - The tracks have been base coated in 2 parts Tamiya Hull Red, 2 Parts Dark Grey and 1 Part Flat Black. The the faces and areas that rub on the road wheels rubbed with 9B graphite - thats all I have done on them so far.

Jan - I have over 80 hours in this baby - I will get to it, thanks for the reminder!

Carl - The pics of 421 just show the two lower pin, nothing else is visible to hold the tracks - must be gravity?

Robert - Sunday shows and I just don't get along well

Cheers all!

John -

This is just flat out incredible! Every detail is so outstandingly brought out. Was the jerry can, etc. stowage supplied in kit? This really needs to be a feature article. All I can do is look in awe and learn. Thanks,

Hi Blade, The kit comes with 3 cans, the ones in the pics are Italeri ones with a 0.005 sandwhich. The beam on the side, tarp and the tool box on the fender also do not come with the kit. As to a feature, well the kit was supplied to me by MMiR and will be a feature in issue 40.

Thanks Willie!

Cheers all!

Wow, Sticky:

What can I say . . . of all the superlatives . . . that haven't
already been said. Just remarkable. I remember that
one shot of the open hatch, all the chipping of paint
which would have been natural and then how you
cut the decal to get the numbers in red just in the
right place. As Easy-off said, you are a true artist.

Thanks Rick. Let me tell you what a pain those decals were. It took me 3 hours and half a bottle of microsol to get them done. 3 HOURS!
