Greetings all

Could anyone give me an idea as to the quality of the following kits and also their usage by Commonwealth Forces during WW2.

201 - GMC 2 1/2 ton 700 Gallon Fuel Tanker ( Single 700 Gall tank )
205 - GMC 2 1/2 ton truck CCKW 353
230 - Dodge WC 62 / 63 1 1/2 ton 6 x 6 truck

I believe that 205 has been re-released with a hard and soft top, is this so and is the kit number 6271?

Does anyone know if any manufacturer does a 15 cwt Water Bowser or is their a towed bowser that would fit with commonwealth vehicles - preferably in plastic?

As always, many thanks.

Cheers

Al

AL

I thave just bought the 205 - GMC 2 1/2 ton truck CCKW 353 and the kit is really good. not that much problems with it. You don't get a canvas with it or the poles, but it does give you the dimensions etc to make them

The only difficult part is the seat area in the back of the truck if you are going to have infantry sitting on the back.

hope this helps

if you can get the italeri #201 (with the tanks in the back), do it. Itīs a nice kit, a bit tricky chassis assembly, but nothing to worry about. And itīs discontinued The same with 6x6 WC 62, also discontinued (itīs an old reboxed ex Peerless kit)

cheers

I really like Italeri trucks. I built undercarriage of the 2.5 ton truck, before my dog ate it, and I liked the way it went together. Mr Roo, one of our resident truck experts, says the machine gun mount on the hard top kit isn't accurate, but it's an interesting thing to have. The one thing about Italeri trucks seems to be that they have more parts in the suspension than Tamiya, for example.

Unless the cost is an issue and you can get the Italeri Dodge 1.5 ton cheap, you would be better off with the AFV Club (ex Skybow) kit. The old Italeri kit is OK if you keep in mind it first came out in the 70's. The newer AFV/Skybow kit is a quantum leap ahead in quality and detail.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the information so far. Geoff I'll check out the AFV Club kit as well.

Thanks again.

Any time I see the Italeri GMC kits for sale and I can afford them I add them to my stash. They are not an add glue to box and shake kit like the Tamiya GMC kit but are still very worthwhile getting. Aber has a closed cab PE set which would enhance the cargo hardcab and eduard has a PE set for the water tanker if needed as well.

Unless I was desperate I would not buy the Dodge as the AFV/Skybow one is far superior in almost every way.

Cheers

It is very inaccurate being a mixture of two different types of mount.

The gun ring part is ok it is the method of attaching it to the truck that is at fault. It is an easy fix though with some sheet plastic and a decent photo of the correct mount.

Cliff, you may have done this before in another thread, but, if not, maybe you could post a photo and explain what you're talking about. As far as softskins go, you're the guru of all.

Cliff kind of slipped this info into his post, but let me emphasize -- this is not a fuel truck ... it is a water truck.

Hi Bob,

No problem, that was a cut and paste from a different conversation. I know 201 is a water tanker, but well spotted.

Cheers
