Chris -
I'm by no means an expert, and I'd defer to 'the_bear', 'Kelley' , 'Ericadeane', or others to help with more accurate, detailed info. The German red oxide primer I believe would have been under the factory applied base coat of Dark Yellow (RAL 7028) for the Panther D. After the Summer of 1943, the standard three-tone camouflage of the base of Dark Yellow with irregular patches of Red-Brown (RAL 8017) and Dark Olive Green (RAL 6003) was used. As for the 'lamps', the second, right-hand headlamp was discontinued on the "D" after Summer 1943 (like the grenade launchers). So it kind of depends on when/where you want to depict your Panther D, but I'd go with the 'three-tone camo' and no right headlamp unless you want to depict Panthers in "Operation Citadel". Hope this helps some.

Panther D was the first Panther so the standard yellow would be fine. 2 tone would also be fine. The three tone would be rare as by then the Panther A had come out and the G

Hi Chris ...Dark yellow panther D's did exist but were mostly seen during training ,as early as Kursk you will see the Panthers camoed in the three color scheme..
here are a couple of dark yellow Panthers but I wouldn't trust the color too much as these look more colorised than actual color pictures but you can see that yellow panthers did exist...
Hope these help a bit .
