Read the article on washes, very good. I have a question, as a beginner again, I have the base coat of T-34 drk green on the tank, enamel, now I want to give it a wash. I have acrylics to use, mixed up a little tinted water, drker than the base color, according to Shep's book, and applied. The washes pooled and gave a blotchy effect after drying. Didn't like it. Any hope for washes with acrylics, or should I go with an enamel wash. Detailed responses would really be a big help, thanks, J.C.

Use oil paints with mineral spirits wash, for the T34 I would use black wash. and burnt umber on tracks.
I tried acrylics, it does what you said, pooled.

I too would second oil paints mixed with turps. Water generally pools the way you mentioned...with or without acrylics.
Remember to first apply a clear gloss coat over your kit then apply the wash. You will see it stream along the gaps with ease.

I also use oils and enamels for washes.Winsor and Newton water mixable type for oils,Model Master or Floquil for enamels.I only use a glosscoat for under waterslide decals(and over). If the wash doesn't flow evenly,it's fine.It doesn't flow evenly in real life either. If you use enamels for base coat and it is dry 3days or more, there should be no problems with 'lifting' of the base coat.

When I used acrylics for a wash I add some retarder to slow done the dryiny time - you can also go back with a clean brush and an alchol /water mix and soften up the pooling !
