I started the 8.8cm Flak 41 a while back and it's a gem to put together. However, when DML released their 8.8cm Flak 36 with SdAnh 202 bogies, I knew that I could mate them to depict the Flak 41 in travel mode.

I got the pretty comprehensive Lion Roar PE set for the Flak 36 and have used most of the suggested parts for the SdAnh 202 bogies. I still had to scratchbuild some items on the cleaning rod racks though. Looking at photos of the real 202 bogies, you realize how more accurate the PE set makes the final product. DML makes understandable shortcuts but I'm 100% glad I went through the insanity of the 100 or so PE parts for the two bogies.

I'll follow up with more close ups of the Flak gun itself later.

Comments and constructive criticism are very welcome. Thnx for looking. RC

Hi Roy,

You must have the patience os a saint. That's amazing work, looks great. The PE certainly adds a lot to the kit.

I think I'll just drop all my kits into the bin!!!

Thanks for posting that.

Cheers

Al

The photo etch is BEAUTIFUL. It's almost a crime to have to cover it with paint.

Thnx for the kind words. I think it's about patience (what are you willing to put up with) and a good plan of attack. Some pieces were beyond my time and trouble (working tool clamps, working hinges on the rectangular box lids) so I either skipped them or just put up what looked logical. Having good tools help.

I didn't need to use my PE holder (Hold N Fold). I just used locking hemostats, various files, and tweezers to place the items on the kit parts. I got into a good rhythm of cutting off the piece, placing it in my hemostat, filing off the nub, bending or rolling the piece and gluing it on. I use medium viscosity CA glue. Nonetheless the PE work took quite a bit of time.

Having good references helped me know what the end result should look like -- I could even modify the kit parts if necessary.

Covering it does seem a shame. However, that's why I took the pics.
