Hello:
I am planning on attempting my first use of filters and although I feel I have a pretty good handle on the process (only after reading many of the posts on the site), I do have two questions.
First, for the satin basecoat, what would be recommended to use (I use Tamiya acrylics exclusively)? Could I simply purchase an spray can of a satin clear coat from a Hobby Lobby style store, or should I purcahse a more "hobby" brand?
Second, what color(s) would you use over a German three tone camo? I have the following oil colors (Winsor & Newton): Cadmium Orange, Prussian Blue, Paynes Gray, Yellow Ochre, Sap Green, Van Dyke Brown, and the typical Black and White....do I have what I need, and if so, what colors would you recommend?
Thanks for any and all help!
Randy

Randy,
I'd certainly recommend a hobby-type satin finish, if at all possible for you. Generic/industrial paints just aren't designed for the ultra-thin application models call for. Personally, I like the Gunze Sangyo sprays for consistency and ease of coverage. I believe Testors makes a satin finish that is lacquer-based, so it should hold up to the weathering process if let to completely cure.
As for your other question ..... all of the above! You'll find over time that each and every color has it's own effect on your base and camo colors. You'll also find as you become more comfortable with the technique that you will become much more bold, hence some of these incredible finishes you see displayed on Armorama!
The main thing is, have fun, experiment and then share!
