One of these days I'm going to make that chopper scene with a Chinook lifting a 105mm howitzer....

Lately I've been thinking about a Canadian Air/Sea Rescue, haven't done any research. All I know is it's bright yellow, with a red lighting bolt stripe down the side...we used to see it regularly on the West Coast...

Czech Masters Airborne soldiers would look great running out the back of this thing. I have to save up and put this on my wish list since I have all three sets of the soldiers.

Pete they definitely would. Even better you probably wouldn't have to add in your own decals at least two are from the 101st, one from Desert Storm and the other is from the 159th Aviation BTN of the 101st.

Hi Joker (Peter);
You're talking about the CH-113 Labrador SAR helo. Most west coast ones where based out of Comox. Bright yellow with red lightning bolts and sponsons. It's derived from the Boeing Vertrol H-46 (Sea Knight type) and is a totally different chopper. The Trumpeter kits wouldn't do as the Chinook, although a similar layout with the twin rotors, is much bigger.
Here's a pic;
Canada's Labrador's have provided faithful service for many years but are being phased out in favour of the new CH-149 Cormorant SAR helo.
Here's a pic of the new Cormorant;
I know there's a few kits of the Labrador around but I don't think anyone makes one bigger than 1/48 scale?
Bob

Yup, same basic version used by the Brits in ODS. I'm sure there are some British modificztions that would need to be made to it though. A Land Rover would fit in it just fine too.

Great photo!
Personally, I'm still awaiting some PE & resin upgrades for the A-model Chinook I wanna get started on soon...
Would love to, but won't spring fer another Chinook 'til I get the A model built... Besides, gotta pick up the AFV Club Aussie Centurion, Dragon Marine M4A2, Italieri PT boat, and the AFV Club Duster, when they all come out this year... Great year for modelling , but tough on the wallet!
Wonder if Trump has any plans for a35th scale CH-46...or a 32nd scale A-1 Skyraider for that matter!
Looking forward to hearing about any changes made to the D model Chinook.
Aloha,
Johnny B.

You'd have to get hold of a pic of the Brit cam pattern too. I remember either Bravo Two Zero or The One that Got Away having some colour pix of Chinooks.

A bit off topic but does anyone know of a 1/35th CH-46 kit? I'm only aware of the MRC 1:48th. Am I just looking in the wrong area?

I would love to see a Chinook make its way into my collection. I have a couple of helos (but havent stated any ) and this one would definately make it to the top of the pile and be started right away.
I am also still hoping for some company to make a brave jump, and produce a few close air support and tactical support aircraft in 1/35 scale. But of course with the size I like to make my projects, I wouldnt be against showing Airborne troops jumping out of a full size C-130.

Hope you have a small warehouse to display them in. A full-sized C-130 has a wing span of 132 feet 7 inches and a length of 97 feet 9 inches. In 1/35 scale, that would be a 45 1/2 inch wingspan, and 33 1/2 inches long. That is almost 4 feet across and almost 3 feet long. The Italeri 1/48 C-130s are big enough with a 3 foot wingspan and 2 1/2 foot length.
Sorry, don't think we will see any large scale cargo or attack aircraft anytime soon. Trumpeter, Academy, and Tamiya all do large scale fighters in 1/32 though. Some interesting big aircarft they do are F4 Phantoms, A6 Intruder, A10 Warthog, F15, F16, F18, F105, Mig 15, Mig 17, Mig 21, etc. There are quite a few out there if you look. Most of the newer jets are quite big as well, about 24" each.

I do remember the glider, and I must say it was very impressive.
Also, I am going to be building a new house soon. The ground floor plans are done, but I am left with a room 15' x 14' in the basement which I have no use for it seems, so I would have some room for a C-130 (or at least the tail ramp/tail section of one) and a few close air support fighters thrown into a diorama. I am also lucky enough to have a godfather who is curator of a military museum, which gives me extra storage, and maybe some place to loan diorama to :-) having relatives in good places is always a benefit

Some calculation leads to a total length of 90cm....
Darn, one needs a pretty big hobby room for this baby...
