They're great for making quick dioramas.
Any tips on making the base look more realistic? The sand grains seem a little large.

That looks cool, ive always wondered about those tiny little tank museam models. Id definatly use finer sand becuase that stuff would be like large rocks to a 1/144 soldier. Try useng some very fine railroad sand or something or dont have the model on sand, make a section of middle east highway and have the model rumbling down a motorway, perhaps add a couple of Iraqi road signs.

The sand above is fine beach sand. I thought of using talcum powder instead but it cakes up smooth.

At that scale,a sheet of 200-400 grit sandpaper, painted the appropriate color.

Thanks. Is anyone else into 1/144 scale?
I'm especially impressed by the Trumpeter releases of the LVTPA7 and Bradley... but there seems to be a lack of 1/144 figures for dioramas.

For sand, try mixing in some find sand into plaster of paris and use that. It may work.

Yep, have more than a few of these little ones. Have the entire CanDo Tiger I set and Abrams sets.
Have several PanzerKorps to build yet, including their Morsers.
Have several of the Tank Museum offerings from Takara, some are better than Dragon's stuff. Their Ersatz M10/Panther is nice, as is their movie BoTB M47/Kingtiger!
The Trumpeter pre-paints - IMHO - are a bit behind the CanDo and Takar offerings, like their Leclerc and T72.
