Finally got round to the superstructure interior. Wiring conduits, remodelled MG mount, scratchbuilt the mortar mount with its sighting and elevation controls. Have made the shell racks but not put them in yet. Still have to scratch two more lights and add wiring

Brian, Brilliant work so far mate! I can't wait to see it all together. Mind you, knowing the work you've put into this, I'm really surprised that you would make such a glaring mistake inside the Sturmtiger itself..ah well. Good job!

Nope - I think I will have to scratch one based on a Panther hatch - the mountings look very similar

Hi Andy - thanks for image

The drawing you have is the found in all pics/instructions - while it shows the mechanism mountings, it does not not show the mechanism. I have been told it was a simple sliding bar, so I will probably scratch one. At least no-one can tell me its wrong

Brian:

Actually it's pretty obvious how this thing worked. It was a rotating bar. It could be unlocked from outside the vehicle, the round lug was the axis.

Here are the outlines of its open

and shut

positions:

Three of the welded lugs are stoppers, but the right-hand one is narrower and it serves to hold the end of the bar somehow - maybe just by friction.

I would also expect some kind of handle on the bar, perhaps a U-handle welded at the right-hand end. See the hatch openers inside a Jagdtiger to get the idea.

Hi Matt
Dragon 3 in 1 for the hull
Tamiya for the upper hull
Aber Interior and exterior kits
Royal Model Super detail kit for the Tranny/Gearbox (but the TWS Tiger Late one will work fine - NOT the TWS Sturmtiger conversion)
Tons of scratchbuilding

What you need depends on what will be visible in the final iteration of your model.
1.If you need to show torsion bars the Dragon hull is the only way to go (you may need to correct the sloping sides with copper rods as I did).
2. If you are showing the mortar shell racks you will need the Aber interior kit - otherwise you can get away with just the exterior kit - very little of the interior is visible through the hatches.
3. If the mortar (interior) is visible you are in for a world of hurt as it needs to be virtually scratch rebuilt from the ground up.

You will also need a vast array of publicly unavailable pictures .

Brian
