I would just like to state for the record that Vallejo Model Color is really nice paint for hand brushing, and that Vallejo Model Air is the WORST paint for airbrushing - what crap - thinned the stuff with their thinner, added their retarder and the stuff still clogs my Iwata in less than 30 secs, while I can work with thinned Tamiya paints for an hour and never have an issue!
There I feel better.

I'm glad you posted this Sticky. I' was thinking of investing in some Vallejo Model Air but now.........
I used to use Humbrol before I got sidetraked with work, familty etc,
Tamiya paints work that well out of the air brush or bottle eh? I'll have to look into that.

Sticky,
Total agree mate, the Vallejo's didn't work for me
2 models out of 10 were successful ,I had to strip/respray the others!
I find Tamiya paints far better
thats my two pence worth :-)

Guys
I had the same issues with Model Air also. I don't think that their thinner is actually "thinner" - it's more like a retardant.
Anyway, I had the same issues until I started adding some Model Air Gloss Varnish to the mix as well. Since then I have found it goes down beautifully and has reduced the number of times you need to "clean" the tip of your AB.
After spending so much on them, I didn't want to just give up......

I have had NO problems with Model Air, sprayed out of my Iwata Eclipse, straight from the bottle. I spray nothing but acrylics and really like Model Air.
Try using it straight from the bottle.

I agree with spraying straight from the bottle. I have found that it goes down great. My only issues have been with some of the lighter colors being to thin or runny.

I've not used the stuff too much, just some german dark yellow, drak green and red brown so far. But I have sprayed straight from the bottle through my Tamiya superfine with good results.
I had heard that it reacts poorly with rubbing alcohol , my usual airbrush cleaner and thinner. So I made sure to flush the brush very well with water after painting and then finished up cleaning with rubbing alc.
No problems.

With my Submicron I can paint a hair line with Tamiya paints. No way with the Vallejo - and I have used it straight from the bottle, and that is fine for broad coverage, but not super fine work.

Hi John,
I am used to a airbrush that was more of a paint sprayer. When I got my Iwata I was in heaven even with the Vallejo paint. My perception of a fine line is something smaller than a blast of paint that covers inches at a time. :-) :-) :-)
