Try mounting the box between the front fenders and resting on the differential hubs. That is lower than in your second pic. There lots of photos of this setup on the net or in reference material. Hope this helps.

Hi Karl
I think I know the exact picture that you are talking about of 71 "Carole" at Gosport awating departure , the postion of the bin is about correct in the 2nd picture maybe a bit lower and more to the left , however if you notice in that photo, there is a spare road wheel between the top of the bin and the lower edge of the drivers postion bulge
(for want of a better word LOL ).
This roadwheel appears to be lying flat on the front glacis plate and not propped againt the bulge ,so maybe you could use a road wheel as measurement to place the bin ?
Ian
P.S. good luck with those indi track links they are a joy hehehehehe

It probably didn't fit too well on the original tank either IIRC the bin was removed from the usual place on the rear of the tank when it was prepared for deep wading. So it had to be jammed on the front with a pile of other gear.

I agree David
Later pics of "Carole" in action in Normandy show the bin remounted on the rear hull plate
