What is a lacquer? I have a bottle of lacquer clear finish will this harm my paint job?

Lacquer is just another medium, like enamel or acrylic. I use Testors clear gloss and dullcote lacquers for my models before applying decals and a wash (gloss) and afterwards (dull). Because lacquers aren't affected by regular paint thinner for acrylics or enamels (if you want to thin your lacquer for airbrushing, you will need to get Testors lacquer thinner as well) you can do the wash with the same medium as the basecoat, like enamel on enamel. Lacquer won't wreck anything, though it tends to make light pastel dust disappear. I recommend using light coats, however.
