Friends,
I decided to test my snowmaking capabilities first, before putting it on the actual contest dio....
Here are some pics from this snow-tests. How do you like it so far ? I'm very fond of the fresh-snow look. Not too much snow, so some of the details will remain visible....
Do you like it this way ? Should there be more or less snow ?? YOU tell ME !

Smarrrrrt man to try a small test dio first ! It takes a bit more trouble, but as Patton said : "a pint of sweat saves a gallon of blood" !
Looks good, Danny. If you want to make this a light snow, you may want to consider this : when the ground is not frozen, fresh snow melts more easy on one material than on the other. It would probably stay on the grass, and the roof - melt on the mud. At one side of the window, the snow would pile up a bit against the wall, at the other there would hardly be any snow (depending on wind direction. These are just details, but nice details.
That mini-dio looks neat, but the way. You can use it to display a figure....

That vignette was made from remaining material that I used to make the shed-dio. The ammo crate was the crate I scratchbuilt with the specifcations given by Ronny.
so this little vignette thing is my testing area, and I'm gonna use it to put a fig on when the contest dio has finished.
Nice little tips on that snow thing. I'll surely use them !

Eagle,
I'm curious as to what material you are using for snow.
I am using Woodland Scenic Snow and am not overly thrilled with the results. I am finding I really have to work pretty hard (or harder than I antiipated) at getting the affect I am looking for.
Your snow seems to have bigger snowflakes than mine.

Slodder,
I'm using snow from Busch Scenics (see www.busch-modell.de)
It's the brush that does the trick... I'll write an article about it, when the contest dio has finished.... not that it's a secret, but I'm fighting some deadlines here...... at this mo' I can't find the time to do the article. I write it down in "short" below:
airbrush / spray white glue to the object. Take a dry stiff brush (medium length hairs). Dip brush into snowmaterial. Tap brush hard 1 time, so that excess snow falls of. Now gently tap off the remaining snow, when the brush is over the object.
Hope this 2c works for you too !

Eagle,
I know all about the deadline so no big deal on the quick response. As always you helped.
The woodland scenic stuff is applied in a similar fashion. Lay down a layer of white glue mixture and then tap the snow over it. Wait till it dries and tap off the excess.
The coverage is the disappointing part of the Woodland product. I have actually layed down about 7 or 8 layers of glue snow mix and am only coming close to my desired coverage. I am looking for a nice 1" or 2" of powdery snow.

Does anyone use the cheap water soluble fake snow in a can? The kind of stuff they spray on x-mas trees and windows etc etc? I picked up some at a boxing day sale, very cheap. You snow look very good eagle, I like the look of alight fresh snowfall, but whatever amount you put on will be good. The comment about the tin roof is deadon, the snow will melt many times faster on that roof, so it might not have as much as on the ground.

I tried, but I think it's too thick..... I can't control the snow, so no snow in a can for me
