Hello everyone..

I've been building for a little over 4 years now, and teaching myself airbrushing as I go.. The latest skill i'm trying to aquire is airbrushing fine lines, and I think i'm getting close.

So here are my latest practice cards. Please feel free to comment or make suggestions.

Using Badger 360 Universal in gravity feed mode.

thinned tamiya Red Brown Paint at about 2/3 paint to 1/3 thinner ratio.

Compressor settings 20 psi to 25 psi.. mostly sprayed at 25psi because it just looked better.

The Black lines are standard sharpie marker and the Blue lines are a ball point ink pen.

Looks good so far, keep practicing....
remember each nozzle and needle have a limit on how fine they will spray. Also remember the thinner the line, the thinner the paint, and the lower the pressure, and the closer to the work.

I don't own a 360, but if you can set the needle like a single action, you'll get more consistent lines, then just need to concentrate on thinness, pressure and distance.

Yeah, got to agree with Grumpy,

Thin your paint even more....normal Tamiya thinning is 50/50 (depending on how old and thick you paint is), so try going about 60/40 thinner to paint, or even 70/30 thinner to paint. Drop your pressure to about 10lbs, and close on on your target, usually less than an inch away.

Then you should start seeing some fine lines without most of the over spray.

What you have now is pretty good, but there is a fair amount of overspray on your lines, cut your pressure, up your thinning ratio, and get your AB closer to the target and you should be golden!!!

I have to agree with the above. When I need very fine lines I shoot at a MAX of 10psi. Is the 360 a double action brush? Also practice on some sheet styrene that has been primed. Its a much different feel on plastic when compared to card stock.
