I dont know what you are doing with them but I have achieved different effects with shaved chalk pastels and thinner and water mixed in. both give you seperate techniques.

I bought a set of Chalk pastel sticks from a craft store for about $6.00 US. I take a stick of what ever color brown for dirt or dust, white for a snow camo effect, and shave off a fine powder with a razor blade or knife. Then I either add thinner or water to the powder and mix untill I get a milk like consistancy. I then wash it on where I want the dust effect or a snow camo wash. When it dries I can either leave it there or brush some of it off with a stif Brush. Then you can just dust on some powder for a final touch up. I have tried to seal the pastels with a matt sealer but I find that this causes some of the subtle dust to dissapear. So I am still working on that issue. Good luck

Sometimes I juse a water mix with pastels but i have found a new way that does not need to be seeld of with matt paint. I juse it for rust, first you mix up your paint (brown)
than you but some baby powder ( the powder they juse for the dipers of a baby, white stuff)
, in dutch: talk poeder.

mix it up until it is quite stiff and is sticky.
apply it on to the place you want.
take some powder from the brown pastel and apply it with another brush over the same spot. The pastel wil stay on the spot when the paintmix dries.
with some practise it must work

Mihael, maybe you could post a link here, rather than trying to send out all those mails, unless the articles are not online, of course (or are copyrighted)

Hi,

These articles come from Armour Modelling paper magazine and probably are copyrighted
I hope soon MIG Jimenez will post an article about using pastels on his website. It should support sale of his products. BTW: I bought several colours of his pastels- they are excellent and worth every cents

Michal

MIG products are not avaiable in Poland So I bought them directly from MIG Factory.
But I received them really FAST. What is also important- the postage fee was very low.

When I use them I just take the #11 knife blade and scrape some off into a little pile and use an old brush to put them on. Be careful not to handle the model much after doing this or you will remove it wherever your hands touch.
