The gallery was really becoming sluggish with too many photos, so I had to dump some items that I thought could go to make space for new photos. Gone are the images of IPMS Nats that I put so much work into. A shame but space is a premium on a server (not to mention what 7200 photos were doing to the database server).
All in all I trimmed about 1250 images from the site. Most were older reference images. A few were model images that (mostly from poor photography) had to go.
If anyone is interested in any of the event photos I have copies on my harddrive of course. I can always burn them onto CD.
Cheers,
Jim

Mixed feelings about this........... Its such a waste to get rid of so much wonderful pictures from the gallery.
But on the other hand I guess that means more space for more impressive pictures to come! Well, a man s gonna do what a man s gotta do............

dmd,
Alas it is not the forum posts or topics that are causing any performance issues. Someday I will need to archive older posts. But the gallery is taking up about 85% of all our server space.

Hi Jim
Any thoughts of creating zipped archives like Paul has on TL?
That way you could post thumbnails and have downloadable files.
Of course that would increase traffic...
Archives of old stuff would be a possibility (anything over a year old for instance...).
Cheers
Andy

Jim, another idea is to trim the size of the image count of some albums... for example, in my CAEN album, there are 17 photos. Perhaps that could scale down to 10 or so? And in the future, we should ;imit the number of slides per album allowed?

I was surprised to see some huuuge photos in the Winter Diorama Campaign folder. There were photos that were almost print quality instead of some 600x400 pixels...
