the best way i know for tamiya paint is denatured alcohol, their thinner is for their enamels which are not available outside of japan. i use denat alcohol for all acrylics and mineral spirits for all enamels. i found they work best in an airbrush and they are inexpensive to get in large quanities. good hunting stug

For airbrush use I just use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol for thinning Tamiya acrylics.

I just discovered acrylic extender. I lengthens the drying time of acrylic paints to help the clogging problems when airbrushing. I used to use a few drops of dish soap, but the extender works much better. For tamiya I use the paint, extender, and a little isopropyl alchohol......For Pollyscale I use water instead of the alchohol. I don't know about Revell paint, but some acrylics are alchohol based and some are water based, and it helps to know what you're working with before you try to mix the paint. You should be able to tell by the smell.....if you aren't sure, take a good sniff of the tamiya acrylics...you'll know then.

There have been several discussions about craft paints, which are acrylic paints sold in the craft department of places like Walmart. They have an extender in thier line that is cheap and seems to work just fine. Check it out. Not sure about Tamiya, but it works fine with those paints.

Games Workshop acrylics is alcohol based and the craft stuff works best with water from my experience.

Stupid question: what is the difference between denatured and rubbing alcohol??

I use spirits to thin acrylic paints....... for airbrushing as well as handbrush. Just like spcsmith, I also find this works better than tamiya s expensive thinner. Works great so far for my tamiya and gunze paints.
