I have done a few models but I just recently got the King Tiger Ardennes Front. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how you apply camo to look realistic. Should I put on a base coat? What kind of color? Etc, anything would help. I do have an airbrush. Ive posted at FSM forums, but no one answers there. I have a good amount of research under my belt because I've waited so long to learn how to do this camo, but I don't know how to do it and the build up is killing me! Help me start it and please tell me all you know about camo on tanks.

Welcome aboard, Col. Kurtz.
You may want to look at James Blackwell's article on ML

Also check Paul Owens' article on weathering located on this site under the "Reviews" section at the top left of this page.
I hope this helps. Happy modeling.......

I did my Ardennes King Tiger in 3 tone ambush scheme.

I first put on the dark yellow coat, then the green, then the brown with airbrush. FOr the ambush dots, I mix thicker than usual paint (about 70% paint and 30% thinner) and set the nozzle to fine, and low pressure, then just free hand spray at very close range to the tank, about 5 to 6 mm.

The above is the picture to the link of my king tiger, so you can have a look.

What SS-74 said. You could also hand paint the spots. I've done both and been happy with the results. I've also seen exampples where a triangular mask was used for the spots.
