Hi all,
Let me know what you think about my paint work so far. The idea is to make this vehicle abandoned few month ago. I'm thinking of adding visible hit mark to make more obvious why it was abandoned or place it on dio depicting wooden bridge fallen under SU 122's weight.

Hey Marcin, great job so far on your SU-122! I built one last year but just haven't posted it yet. I will soon. The paint job is excellent as well as the weathering. Which paints did you use and weathering methods, etc.?

I painted it with Pactra acrylics (black preshading, Russian Armor Green A112 as base color and then panels centers were lightened up with base color + Vallejo green grey 886). Then all edges were drybrushed with black + little green. In the end all model was washed with Lifecolor's rust. The same paint was used to make rust streak marks.

The SU looks good. The rust stains/drip down markings are well done. Keep up the good work here.

Since the SU is going to be shown abandoned, it might be worth considering having a hatch or two slightly propped open. I'm assuming there is no interior on the SU, (so if you do decide to open a hatch), perhaps show it only partially/slightly open with a small piece of wood or metal propped into the opening. The wood/metal piece blocks some of the view of the small opening and also lends credibility in that the wood or metal piece is the reason the hatch is only partially open.

You also have some fine looking tools on the hull side. Perhaps removing one or two of them, or showing them knocked off and fallen to the ground might lend to the abandoned feel of the scene.

You are doing on fine job here for the Big and Beefy Campaign. Please keep us posted as you complete your build.

You read in my my mind ,Steve. I planned to leave hatches slightly open but had no idea how to make looking good. Piece of wood or metal is great idea.
Concerning nice loking tools, I was thinking about covering (at least partially) them with beam. Many pics show such beams on many soviet tanks (including SU-122). What do you think about that?
Of course I won't be able to finish dio (or even start it) before campaign's deadline.

Looks great so far. Love the rust streaks. I have one of these in my stash. Looking at yours makes me want to start it :-)
For a dio some damage would look really good. Perhaps a track knocked out.
Nice idea for the partially opened hatches as well.

Your beam is a great idea. This is something I've done on a couple of Soviet vehicles, and it can be a nice little touch of realism for the model. Good luck on that.

Just an fyi for you -- (for the Big and Beefy campaign), completion of the model, (in your case the SU), by June 1st, earns you a ribbon. If you place the SU in a dio after the campaign completion date, that is great, (and we'd love to see pics of that when you are done), --- but just so you know, if the SU is completed by June 1st, you have successfully completed the Big and Beefy campaign. Thanks for participating.

Steve
