Hi guys!
I'm usually a 1/35th scale armoour modeller but I see some of the beautiful work you guys do with the larger scales in regards to the detailing and interiors with your big tanks.
As it is, I would like to try my hand at it. I would love to do a larger scale Tiger or perhaps King Tiger.
Can anyone point me in the right direction with regards to a good kit, accessories, PE,etc, etc?
Much appreciated.
PS: It will be for show only and not RC when its finished.

Hi my friend,
Perhaps you didn't get an anwser before because there are a lot more people in small/normal scale than in big scale.
Anyway, as far as I know there isn't a big scale Tiger with full interior. This leaves you the following options:
- Tamiya 1/16 static Tiger
- Bandai 1/15 Tiger
- Heng Long 1/16 Tiger
Both the Bandai and Heng Long Tigers are made for RC use but they lack the electronics and gearbox/engines which the Tamiya full option kits have.
The static Tamiya tank is the same as the RC version but without the parts you need for an RC tank.
The Tamiya and Bandai tanks are kits which need to be build. The Heng Long is already build (ready to roll) when you buy it.
However the Heng Long tank is the cheapest and you'll have more than enough work with scratchbuilding the interior and detailling the exterior :-)
The Bandai tank is a bit bigger (1/15) and you have to build the entire tank. It's more expensive though.
The Tamiya static tank is the most expensive tank, but perphaps also the best one if you talk about fit of the parts, ease of building etc.
The King Tiger is only produced by Tamiya, both static and RC, both the Henschel and Porsche, although the last one is hard to find.
This is all 1/15 and 1/16 scale. If you're mad you can always buy a 1/8 or 1/6 Tiger
About the accesoires: both Tamiya and (iirc) Aber produce 1/16 etch for the Tiger I. These are PE engine grills. There are also several manufactures who produce detail sets, upgrade sets etc etc. I can give you some links if you want....
Hope this is of some help,
Martin

Hi Tapper
If you want 1/16 with a detailed interior and your not partial to what country, i would recommend the excellent T34/85 or T34/76 from Trumpeter. It has a complete interior w/ engine and tranny as well. This is an awesome kit and a whole lot cheaper than tamiya. If you want to stick with the german stuff I could only recommend the Tamiya since it's the only one I've built. No interior though. Alot of scratchbuilding on this one.
Good luck
Steve

Tamiya makes a 1/25 Tiger with an interior. It needs extra detailing, but that's half the fun. Turret shape isn't quite right either.
Academy makes a Panther G with interior.
Either of these are fairly inexpensive kits.

I found out which kit it is I posted before:
http://www.toysunlimited.nl/Forces%20of%20Valor/Extreme%20Metal/King%20Tiger%20Extreme%20Metal.htm
Forces of Valor kit......more than 500 euros for a static kit! I'd rather spend 550 on a RC king tiger
