Hi everyone,
Question, does anyone remember a discussion some time back about techniques for replicating the colored glass on modern armor periscopes? I can't seem to locate it.
Sincerely,
Brian

I use Ginos (HeavyArty) method. Flat black covered with clear red and a rather thick coat of gloss varnish. Works great on American AFVs. I have also used this method with different colors to replicate the "greenish" color of other vehicle optics.

Yep,
topic has come and gone several times recently..
There are several ways to simulate it, until now I haven't had time to test myself which is best:
- Get some waste negative photo negative, cut to size and glue it on.
- Same as above, but with candy paper or some other stuff that gives different colours depending on the direction from where you look at it.
- Use the airbrush: spray some coats of (Tamiya) clear red, followed by clear blue and finally silver on the back of the clear part, or the other way around if you do it to the front.
Those are ways it's mostly done, but again, haven't tried it myself.
Maybe someone else might give comments on the best option, I know Gino (HeavyArty) has tried it.
Hope this helps..

I also use the same method as Gino and Erik, but I use Chrome Silver underneath the Clear color.
And here is the lates method I borrowed from someone here and it works great. I picked up a bag of confetti from Hobby Lobby. It is the reflective confetti. I cut the peices to fit the periscope and glued it in place. The bag came with different colors from purple to green to red. The bag will last a long time.

Hello Brian, you can purchase a bag of mylar confetti at Michaels or Joanns or any other craft store for about $2.00. These strips are cut in irregular patterns in various colors. The reds, oranges and greens look pretty good for the periscopes and optics.
