Hi I currently have aztec A430 airbrush which is basically OK (with three different nozzles to choose...30,40 & 50) but...even tho i do practice a lot, somehow i can't get the nice fine lines, no matter how i thin paint (I use Model Master Enamels) and how i set up air on my Paasche compressor (between 4 and 15) there is no way i can get the fine, fine lines, they are always to thick with lot of splashes around them I have a moisture trap on my compressor-2in1 unit with air pressure regulator)..is it me or this aribrush is just not good enaough for fine work? I was looking just now over the net and found a metal Badger 150 Fine Airbrush for about $55 which is cheaper that i have paid for my aztec in wooden box. Camo is what i want to use mainly for. I was trying just now to put a Camo on my assembled and base painted Tamiya's Sdkfz222 and i hate the result, will have to repaint it...so what do You guys think? if Badger 150 Fine Airbrush is good for fine camo work?
Thanks

Hi Greg,
Before you go spending $55 on a new AB, why not try spraying an acrylic through the Aztec and see if the same splatter effect happens... Rather $3 on a bottle of Vallejo Model Air (which you can spray directly from the bottle with out thinning) than $55 on a new AB...

also try the fine aztek nozzles (beige and black, i believe), they're ~$10 each. experiment with thinner/paint ratios. if nothing else, you'll learn something about paints and such.

Thanks for the info.... i think what i Have and been using for "fine" work now (Red/smallest nozzle in my set) is .53mm, just ordered a Tan .30 nozzle which should be more suitable for my needs also ordered another water trap, the one that connects to the hose (should this be connected somehwere in the middle of the hose?)
Thank You guys, will give it a shot along with a bottle of vallejo air that i have also ardereda and see if this helps....cheeers

Yep, I have been using Red nozzle (.53mm) for fine lines, no wonder I couldn'r get it right no matter what I did. Also.......just find out i I actually have double action Air Brush http://www.bearair.com/prodinfo.asp?number=100258
What happend to the search tab?, can't find it.
Once Again, thanks for pointing me into the right direction with my "problem"...cheers

i know someone that claims to be able to draw very fine lines with the red nozzle, and he probably can, but it's really not what it was originally intended for as far as i can tell. also, try spraying inks for fine lines and low pressure applications. you don't have to dilute them and they don't have the clogging problems that unfiltered paint in a gravity-feed cup with a fine nozzle would have.

I have just replaced my Badger 150 with an Iwata Eclipse. This was because it was always very iffy spraying acrylics. It was fine with inks and very thin acrylic for painting on paper/canvas but not up to spray coating models, even with the fine nozzle. It was a wee bit better with enamels though.
It has been a faithfull tool for twenty years so I'm not criticising it but the Iwata is just a very capable tool.
