Here's another one done, DMLs BMP -1 a bit of a struggle this one, the kit is soft on details and the track is not up to todays standards. Thought I'd be clever and upgrade using a bit of PE, (an old and OOP set for the BMP) ,and aftermarket track from "Armortrack" what a pain, should have stuck with the original kit offering and detailed it, the "New and Improved" road wheels, sprockets and idlers were pslightly better than the kit supplied. My opinion not worth the extra cash in the least.... coulda bought another kit or two for what I paid for that aftermarket set, anyhow here she is
As always your comments and critiques are welcome

Hi Drew,
Yes, I use pigments and oil washes ( usually raw umber and a little paynes grey,) pigments and pastels come from various sources.
Thanks for the comments

Slick looking BMP. Knowing what a dog the kit can be, you did a very nice job.

What next...BTR?

It looks great. I have the same kit still sitting in the box. After seeing how well your's turned out, I'll think I'll revisit mine. Good going.

Hi Peter,

Nice buils sir, looks great to me. I also have my doubts about AM products both in terms of quality and usefullness. As you say sometimes they are just not worth the money, trouble is until you buy... LOL, LOL - Murphey's Law.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers

Al

Good to see that good old BMP-1 again.
I have a-2 on the to do list with the same AM running gear set. I guess I'll have to pay some attention to it.
The weathering looks fine and the mud effect at the back is realistic. I guess you thinned the "fins" of the "waterjets". If so, how did get this done ?

Another improvement is to cut out the rotating part of the commander's cupola and remount it on a thick piece of plastic card before replacing. Dragon have recessed it into the hull roof in such a way that the view from the periscopes is blocked

Think I also replace the recoiling section of the gun with some tube.

Nice mud!
Is it the re-box of the Italeri kit?

The Italeri kit is a European rebox of the DML kit.

Yep, Sabots right. This is the DML offering, looks like a BMP though, but kind of a pig to build.

He says he used "old and OOP PE set"...my guess is the old Eduard PE set. It has replacement rear fenders...nice and thin.

Man, I gotta get my stuff done...ok guys, give me some encouragement...I need all the help I can get Obi wan! :-)

Hi Jacques,
It is that OOP Eduard set, I can't even remember where I found it, and really I think I only used about 50% of it, but the rear fenders really make look good, or at least to scale.
Tankmaster is where I got most of my reference, and the fenders are shown really beaten up, I think mine are too straight.
Now if i could just finish that Scud/Maz launcher, I'd be really happy, it's about 80% done and I'm going to have some custom decals made for the rocket to pimp it up a bit.
Do you know what other of the early Dragon kits there are? Russian ones in particular, I'd love to tackle some more..at least the price is right!

Dragons "red" kits are:

BRDM-2
BRDM-3 (The AT-5 variant)
SA-9 Gaskin

T-72 G/M
T-72M2
T-72 w/ERA

T-80
T-80 w/ERA
T-80U SMT M1989

Scud-B w/Maz Launcher

BMP-1
BMP-2
BMP-2 "afghanistan"

BTR-70
BTR-70 "afghanistan"
BTR-80

There is also the BTR-80A from Zvezda that is essentially the DML BTR-80 but with a new turret added. It is a good kit.

Have fun.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for these. Lately as folks have been talking about unbuildable or inaccurate kits, I'm searching them out and seeing if I can work with them, challenge is good and usually the price is right! Last couple of days I've been thinking about Tamiyas Grant tank ,and how to build it up.....mmmm
Thanks Mate
Peter
