Hi Ossie,
It looks really great.
Now... I know you've discussed this with Steve Cruikshanks, but how easily will the AFV Club Centurion convert to an Olifant Mk1A?
Cheers
Rudi

hi
to respond to your question.
it is easy to convert because the engine decks are SEPERATE. also the two rear plates as well are also seperate.
so just build new decks and you have done it.
the construction as slowed down due to building those indervidual track links, but aim to finish it by next weekend,
ok i am away from now till monday.

I wish AFV Club would copy DML's idea and put ejectors outside of parts... Those pin holes on the loader's hatch may be slightly troublesome to remove. Other than that it looks awesome!
Ossie, what paint you use? Is it WEM Australian OD maybe?

...but how easily will the AFV Club Centurion convert to an Olifant Mk1A?.....
Rudi, although AFV Club’s Centurion is an excellent model and way ahead of Tamiya’s old kit, unfortunately for the Olifant it is little closer than Tamiya’s was.
Converting AFV Club’s Centurion to an Olifant Mk.1A.
Engine deck et al.
Change engine deck, plus add the rubber runners.
Add barrel/travel lock.
Remove the exhausts and add the air cleaners/filters and rear most bins.
Correct the rear of the tank and add the infantry box.
Turret
New barrel, unless you are building a training tank (training vehicles used the 84mm gun as well as the GT3/L7).
Antennae base/bases (Bev vehicles usually have 3) are in wrong places, plus add the “bush bar” protectors for the bases (solid semi-circle for older vehicles).
Fill in the hole for the ranging 0.50 cal
Change the gunner’s sight.
Remove the detail on the inside of the Commander’s cupola hatch.
Build correct bustle rack.
Lose the light, but you have to add a fixture for the Xenon light to the mantlet, IIRC just above the barrel.
Correct the smoke launches (they are in the correct position and the cable to them is correct).
Add cleaning rods to turret top.
Add non-slip material to the hull, turret and bins.
Above is just a quick list off the top of my head and does not include the correcting and adding of fuel caps, driving and tail lights, plus forward and rear convoy lights as well as the bush guards for the lights, external fire extinguisher panel/box, placement of spare tracks, plus more than a few other items I’ve overlooked.

hi
to convert the tank to a upgraded engine vehicle weather Israeli, Swedish or oflaint, Jordan or even singerpore , Swiss. Or the first to be converted by the Dutch is quite a easy job compared to the Tamiya kit because you only have to build new parts to replace what is fitted.
The Turret is also the right type for all these upgrades.
Hope this helps.
I now hope this week to really get on and complete the AFV version of the Centurion , and then decided what I will build with the next one.

Ossie,
Sorry if this has been asked before, but do you know how many Centurion versions AFV are going to produce and (more importantly) are they going to do an AVRE version ?
Thanks

I want to confirm the camouflage for the following countries .
Canadian Centurion Mk 11 in 1977 on there final parade in 1977. I have a colour picture in Simon Dunstons book which shows green and black is this correct?
Dutch colours Mk 5 were they just brown/ khaki ?
Danish Centurions Mk5 when did they start to use green and black?
Swedish Centurions what camouflage colour were they before three and four tone camouflage?
Swiss centurion camouflage colours ?

Ossie,
Take a look at this site:
Armoured Acorn
The first colour section has NATO std Cents and the photo in Dunstan's book _should_ match the three coulour scheme shown. Given the variability of all things, the DUnstan photo may, indeed, show just green and black, but the standard scheme should be two greens and a black.

Thank you for your information. It is the parade in Simon Dunstan book. If you really want to know about the kit take a look at the model disccusion group and construction group on missing links. You will find everything about the centurion kit.

Ossie,
sounds promising but will we have to wait another two years to see these versions?
I'm really happy they made this kit but it still doesnt take anywhere closer to any of the IDF S'hot variants.
for that matter the Tamiya kit is better because Legend's conversion are designed to work with it.

hi
just be patient regarding the iserali version ok.
but the legend conversion is wrong, the turret is based on my master which is to big for the tamiya kit.
the full kit is the best choice.
Pums is well out of scale .

hi
lots of people have not noticed all the extra parts in the box besides those which enable you to build a mk5 Australian version. some idea
out of the box with parts included you can make a
mk5
mk5/1
mk6
mk6/1
mk6/2
remember when on the ranges in UK they use to install the 20pdr A type barrel .
but you could build every nation out of the box just by adding a 105mm and side plates.
Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Swiss, Israeli 1967 version, Canadian
it has the parts for two types of lights , old and IR twin headlights.
new tow rope brackets for rear plate and center stowage bracket.
extended mudguards front and back
different add on amour plate with headlights
MK 5 gun mantel
jerry can for rear of turret but no carrier

hi all
ok i have just painted my AFV kit, i have only added a AA search light in the back basket and some handels and all the bits that are missing. not to happy with the mantel cover.
painted first lower hull in Humbrol 29 then painted the two cam colours ( which i mixed) in Tamiya paints then added a very light coat of clear and thinners , like tony greenland does, but teh lighting makes it look shiny.
i now have alot of weathering and other sahdes ect to do over the next few days.
the AA Dozer Hull i just painted in brown mat 29 at the moment so i can see any mistakes and i am quite pleased
rest of the pictures are here http://s54.photobucket.com/albums/g110/oztank/
just tear me apart.

Hey Jim, this the one you were thinking of?
http://store.quartermastersdepot.com/Shop/tabid/1/CatalogItemID/42/CatalogID/1/psnavcmd/CatalogItemDetails/Default.aspx
Gonna order this one myself. If you need any Mk.5 pics, there's 3 of them out here on the Base, and you probably got shots of the one in Calgary at the Museum.
Cheers,
Jim
