Everything is, or should I say WAS going great up until now. In short, I sprayed my 6x6 with the Model Masters 1911 right out of the can. It layed so nice, I was really impressed. I was told by the Hobby shop person who's been there for nearly 15 years that I can remember anyway, that the stuff in the spray, 1911 was the same formula as 2050, but just a differant number. Then I was looking foward to shooting with the air brush 2051 for the fading effect.
Well, that fricken' 1911 is no where near the color that 2050 is and my 1911 is already on the vehicle. I've gotta tell ya, the 2051 doesn't look even remotely in my opinion of the same blend to fade out the 1911 either. I don't have the base 1911 in a jar so I can blend my own formula for faded. I guess what I'm used to is blending the original base formula with the colors to create highs and lows, but since the base color is in the spray version, and the 2050 isn't the same color, I can't even do touch ups if need be.
So, what do I do? Any ideas? I'm wondering if the Tamiya Olive drab would do? I don't have any and its a 40 mile trip to find out.
Anything you can suggest will be helpfull. And no Marty, I'm not going to quit!!! :-) :-) :-)

You could always decant (spray) the 1911 into a airbrush bottle and let it air out some to release some of the propellants in it. Then you can lighten it as needed and use it like any other paint..

The easiest way to Decant it is take a WD-40 nozzle w/ the straw ans spray it into the bottle.

That makes sense to me, I've got some jars. I just think its annoying don't you? They, Model Masters has this spray and there's no matching touch up color in a jar that could be used as a blending base. I mean, its enough to make the Pope mad enough to want to break stained glass! Don't you think?
Its been so long since I've used Model Masters, I actually forgot how much I hate how the paint in a jar lays down as well. I've been using Andrea's and Vallejo with tubed oil base washes for my figures. Never any brush strokes, the colors blend easily, the bottles are perfect due to their eye dropper style dispensing and working with acrylics and laying on an oil based wash, you never have a conflict with one paint removing the other. The flats are dead flat, the glosses lay just as nice as the flats do with a brush and they even have a satin line that is just what it says, satin. I know what my next vehicle will be painted with. I think it will be an LCM.

The best way I found to decant those annoying little buggers, was on a quiet sunny afternoon, at about 200 yards, with my Marlin lever action 30/30, and a beaut of a Bushnell scope on her.
They decanted alright. :-)
:-) :-) :-) Way to go Ken!

Well, after hours of toil and trying to blend my own olive drab with oils, I started digging through my paint inventory, ( its drawers and drawers full). I actually found the exact color match in a jar! Model Master 1711, it has the same FS numbers as the spray.
If its out there, why the heck didn't the guy at the store send me home with the right stuff? I called him nearly 2 hours prior to my arrival to his store, he had plenty of time to do the job right. Grrrrr. Ya know, all this stress for nothing.

Best line you have said yet. Was it really that big of a deal? Relax, it is only a hobby.

Okay, I tried to follow, because it seems interesting, but I'm lost (what a surprise) :-) :-)
What is decanting a spray can?...besides shooting it with a 30/30...though that does seem fun

All it means is spraying it into another bottle/container to use as a brush paint or spray through an airbrush, etc.

glad ya found the right one..
say what you will about Model Master but they do have one of the largest line of colors that is easy to find....
btw remember if you want to lighten olive drab then you add yellow.......... white just makes it into a gray....

AHH! Ken , You are truly a man after my own heart. Isn't amazing how much fun it can be to destroy something? Especially with all the time you spend being constructive, sometimes ya just gotta unleash the destructve side..... That blow up real good!

Thanks Delbert! Did you see the progress that I've made? Its still a W.I.P. but its most that I've done since 1990.
