Hi guys

Can anyone tell me how to make vines ? I'm working on a old brick wall. It has some battle damage, and some semi-tall weeds growing at the bottom, but it just needs something else. Any ideas ?

Hello Harry:

For vines I would suggest using small roots that you
can dig up around a hedge row, such as in my front
yard. I'll include a picture of a vignette I did using those
roots from that hedge for vines. The leaves were from
Hudson & Allen glued on individually. H&A calles that
pak "Ivy". I used Super Glue to attach the roots/vines
and then dabbed Testers Dullcote over the shiny
glue stains. Here is the pix:

Good luck.

I too recommend Hudson and Allen Ivy.

It's hard to see in this picture but rest assured it is wonderful stuff.

However Rick is hardcore - no way did I have the patience for adding one leaf at as time. I C.A glued the vines in place, then wiped them over with coloured PVA and poured them (very thickly) on top. Once dry I turned them upside down (an caught the excess in a box for later use) and was done.
If you have trouble finding any H&A let me know - I *may* be able to help.
Cheers,

I have used thread - painted to color, glued with white glue, sprinkeled with crushed herbs.
a bit hard to see, it's not an overgrown version....

Another alternative is to use plant roots. Roots from potted plants are okay too if they're a bit woody. Just dry in the sun for a day or two or hang in up in your room for a few days. The best branched roots are come from plants grown on sandy soils as they generally tend to branch more.

If you are looking for thick ivy, just leave the vines off and use tea leaves. I used tea leaves once with very good results.

Hi guys

Thanks for all the great replys. I think what I'm going to do is try a couple of different methods and see what works best for what I'm trying to do.

Ken, I'm a ways south of Chagrin Falls. I'm outside of Youngstown in a little town called Girard. I do get to the Clevland area alot. I'm on the renal Transplant list at University Hospital of Cleveland. So I'm up there at least once a wk .
Thanks again guys
Harry
