The scene:
AFV base coat is enamel 'light stone'. Future was applied to areas slightly larger than decals.Decals applied and went perfect.Another coat of Future applied locally. Dry. Apply 2 light washes of water based W&N gray/buff mix.Wonderful.Dry.Spray 2 light coats of Testors Dulcote.Beautiful,EXCEPT where Future is applied.Slightly darker than surround and still has gloss sheen at a angled view?
Did same earlier to OD subject and no problemo.
Now what?

Hiya Rick
I have used future on several models and have noticed that if I only use it where the decals go I can see the the area I used it on under light even after using dullcoat.
so one thing I tried was coating the entire model in future. this prevents having one area shinnier than another but doesn't dull down as flat as I would like.
I've also recently read an article that adding Tamiya flat base to future (aprox 30%) will flatten the apperance of future.. but I have yet to try this method.. yet...

Why not use the right tool for the job and airbrush the whole model in Testor's Glosscote before using their Dullcote? Using anything on a limited area is going to risk the final look of that area. Flat base+Future violates the only rule I learned from NOT selling life insurance, lo, those many years ago: Keep It Simple., Stupid.

As I said in my original post,I had done this before on a OD base coat and had no problem at all. I guess the lighter colors make the gloss sheen more noticable.
As far as the suggested solutions go,thanks guys!
Delbert- I thought about doing all in Future, but didn't like the way washes acted on gloss. If Tami flat base is used, doesn't that make the decal susceptable to silvering effect?
Thanks Al.

Hi all
What is it with that future stuff that everybody wants to use it?. Why not add a significant of gloss coat to your base coat when spraying? Then you put on your decals using some set or sol product or just some vinegar. Spray over with dull coat or if the decals are too bright in colour spray a mist of the base colour over the decals. I did that last trick on my 1/32 F15 and it worked out great. Decals really blend in that way and nothing shiny.
But that just my personal technique. I' ll just now
Cheers

I spray the whole thing in future.
Let it sit for a couple days and put on decals.
When decals are dry I spray whole thing again with future and again let it sit for a couple days.
Then I spray it with dulcote and do my normal weathering with washes drybrushing etc.
Seems to work for me.
