Hey guys, starting to build this kit. Have a few questions:
Anyone have a good web resource for photos, etc? Want to get better ideas on weld seams, weathering, etc.
What alterations need to be done to this kit and how have people done them?
I have Eduard brass for this tank.. what other accesories are suggested?

BTW, which version or model number do you have of this kit? Tamiya makes three different ones:
# 35049 T-34/76 Tank 1942, I think this one is discontinued.
# 35059 T-34/76 1943 Model Russian Tank
# 35149 T34/76 Tank ChTZ
I ask because each one has slightly different extras you could add to it.

When I first started surfing on eBay in 1996, you could look at every model (only one category for models was in "crafts & hobbies") listed in about an hour. Today, you can't even look through the armor category in a day.
This used to be the place to get great buys, and still is to an extent. But there are plenty of auction saavy buyers that keep the market price to about what the shelf price is. Some sellers use eBay as an online store so they don't have to have an online site. They tend to sell at MSRP and usually carry what's available in the stores or Squadron for the same price. Not much of a deal here.
Of course, there's always the guy thinning the collection or the wife who's kit-hoarding husband has passed away that post kits at a low price. These are the ones to find. (watch for my wife to post my kits when I'm gone
). Of course, with snipers and bidbots, these deals are getting harder to come by.

The kit was very fun to build, you have to work on the weld seams, I made mine using the hot needle technique (you can check a latest topic in this forum regarding about weld seams). A good thing is to buy news tracks (what comes to the model are awfull) I didn´t and I regret
. I strictly recommend getting the book: Osprey Modelling Manuals #16 - T34/76 & T34/85, this book is very usefull (I´m sorry to say that mine only arrived when I´m almost finnishing my model ).

Osprey puts out a book on modeling and correcting the Tamiya T34/76's and 85's.
I'm not at home so I don't know which number, but the book is quite recent, I believe.

It's the standared Osprey size, and I believe it's called"Modeling and Detailing the T34/76 and T34/85". I'm at work and am relying on my memory. And I've been told that I am using faulty equipment.

I'm new to the hobby as well. I have Eduard brass. How am I supposed to remove some of the Tamiya plastic to make room for the brass? Exacto knives just don't seem to do it. I'm basically ruing the model!!

Hard to do, but you need to use the chiseled shaped blade, not necessarily the regular #11 blade. Also for bigger "chunks" you can use a grinding bit in a Dremel Moto-tool.

Not sure of the # Andy, I usually pick up the misc pack with various different blades. It is the chisel shaped blade with "hips". I just looked and the number on the blade is 17.

Rob--the chisel blade is a life saver. I use it religiously. The odd thing about the Dremel drill I have is my inability to differentiate between any of the speed indicators. I have tanker ears, but other than looking pretty, it seems it has one speed. Thus the chisel blade is a god send to getting those nasty former battery holder brackets out of the hull. BTW---I found the M-113 interior and mailed it to you this morning.

Ok, I'm home and I can say that the above information is in error. The book is an Osprey Modeling Manual #16 "T-34/76 & T-34/85". It shows, in detail how to correct Tamiya #35049 T34/76 Model 1942. And how to make a T34/85 from the same kit.
Even if you do not have this Tamiya kit, there many useful pictures for detaling any T34.
