I've got to pull an M88 into the bays for maintenance today. I'll take some photos once the thing thaws out. I'll take any requests for particular shots. Keep in mind that it will be indoors so the boom will not be erected, also since it will be in maintenance it won't be lifting anything. I will be able to take interior shots and exterior shots. It should be there for the better part of a week, most likely for the entire week+.

I don't know if the pack's coming out. If it is, I will take engine and engine compartment shots.

Great news, Rob.. I'm just about to start with AFV Club's M88 from Nam and any detailed pics could be really helpfull. Interior shots would be most welcomed as I'm planning to build interior, too..

Took a couple of quick exterior shots of the M88. Then I had to discuss the amount of track tension with the NCO who owns it. It's almost like looking at a WW2 German tank!

I also took some photos of the Electrical Shelter I had in the bays. It should be the same type that is included with the Italeri M923 truck. I took some good exterior detail shots. I'll get it opened sometime this week to take some photos of the interior.

I figure you'll take a buttload of interior pics for the idiots like me, just let me know when they are uploaded.

I have this kit in my inventory so I will be glad to see what ever pictures you can get. Only having started three kits in the last three months it maybe a while before I tackle this one. Thanks again for the two books. They will fill a hole in my tech library.

Count me in Rob! I'd like to request some shots of the dozer blade mechanism from the outside. I'd also like some pics of the running gear especially those with the shock absorbers. If ever you prop that beast up on its dozer blade please get shots of that too.

Thanks!

The initial batch of M88A1 photos are uploaded along with some photos of an Electronic Shelter (the type included with the Italeri kit).

I'll take some more interior photos in the next few days, once the snow melts off the vehicle and it warms up.

Again let me know if you need a specific shot. Enjoy!

Now I see what you meant my "thawing the thing out" Rob #:-) Can't you just pop that into the microwave and hit "Defrost"?

Thanks!

THE MOTOR POOL GOD HAS STRUCK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to take away from Rob's thunder, but here is some more to add to his pictures of the Electronic Shelter. This is just one picture in the Gallery of my shelter. It is similar to the electronic shelter, but made for our Job, which is working on the Tow Missile System. It is called an ICSS shelter(Integrated Contact Support Shelter.) If you all want more detailed shots, just ask, and I will take some more next month at drill.

Rob and the gang, (sounds like a music band :-) )

I'll try to do interior for my M88 and am wondering what hatches can be opened on the model (and on the real thing, of course) to show the belly of the beast? I want to open it up as much as I can...

Talking about hatches, many "in action" pics of M 88s in Vietnam show 2 hinged parts over the exhaust area that are lifted up and kept "open" by a latch located on the A-frame stand (I hope I am clear enough ). Could it be possible to get a picture of such a configuration, showing what is visible in the exhaust area when these 2 panels are lifted up ?
TIA

More good news. I'm getting a new (old model) depot rebuilt M88A1 (not the brand new M88A2) from Anniston Army Depot in Alabama. It'll be here today. I'll take more photos of both of them. I wonder what color the new one will be, overall green, NATO 3-color or desert tan? I'm betting overall forest green.

Oh, I forgot to mention. For those of you that want to put an interior inside the M88, MR Models has a nice interior for the AFV kit. With that, the AFV workable tracks and the Eduards photo etch set, it comes out realy nice. Plus Real models has a convertion set to make it an M88A2 Hercules. It has the new boom, front winch, side skirts, and a whole new top hull with added on armor.

I missed this post earlier. I'll take shots of the area. It's just the engine under there and the exhaust stacks empty out to the right and left louvers. Look for them later this evening.

I'm just waiting for this one.. I've seen it go for $60 on GreatModels, but got it at Accurate Armor website for ~$30.. It is a good deal.

Really, look on their webpage under Armour Distribution... they have MR models M88 interior for L19,57 (around $25 I guess). If you compare it to other on-line stores I think it is a good deal..

Hi Rob, Heres my request. Any pics of the rollers or attachment points where metal hits metal. and the tracks before you change them out( if you are) I need some good reference on wear on the M88 and armour in general.

Support rollers are rubber rimmed and the track blocks are rubber too.

BTW the motor pool now has over 5000 hits! It appears to be a top draw still.

Update: I took 40 shots today of areas around the driver's compartment, assistant driver's compartment, rigger's seat, "Little Joe" APU, spade lock, head/tail lights, exhaust areas, upper hull/roof/hatches, the area between the exhaust grills and top of the engine deck. I'll upload them tonight (Eastern Time) and if there's more demands, I'll take some more photos in the next few days.

Forty additional photos have been uploaded (50 total) of interior and exterior of the M88A1. Almost everything the resin interior purchaser would need to detail out his AFV M88A1 (and Revell of Germany).
