Looking to purchase an outdated kit from Academy. The kit is M-728 Combat Engineer Vehicle #1396. Anyone have one or know where I could purchase one? Thanks Martin S. Kaufman

Academy never made an M728 CEV. They advertised a kit that was really an M60A1 RISE/Passive with ERA and M9 dozer blade. It's still available though: http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=MH1390

As Rob wrote - kit 1396 was announced many times, but never released.

I also fell for the Academy kit in 2002, believing there was a CEV waiting inside to be built! Wrong again,,,,
I was able to order a CEV turret conversion from AEF Design in Colorado. Although the overall quality of the conversion was questionable, I was able to base a very business-like M728 CEV on the AEF material. I would caution you to obtain good reference photos before attempting the AEF conversion, as the instructions are there in name only.
If you would like, I can send some images of my completed kit as reference material, since that would be the approach to take, without having to scratch-build your own.

Since Academy's so called M-728 CEV doesn't exist, can anyone tell me if the boom of AFV's M-88 is simular to the boom on the M-728. If so, with a little bit of scratchbuilding- maybe I could put one together finally!!!! Also, I remember US Army manual on vehicles in the mid 60's that showed a Combat Engineer Vehicle that was NOT the M-60 version but another tank with Christy suspension (not a M-551) but simular in shape and size of a M-551. The book was only about 25 pages, all in black & white photos, very little text and the size of the book (or manual) was 8X11 and had a light blue cover. It was definitly a US Army book, meant to help soldiers in US vehicle identifcation. Each page was a entire page photo in black & white. Anyway, thanks guys for the info-

Here's another thread on Armorama about the M728 :
M728
It includes some tips about the conversion sets from AEF and H&K. The H&K set is OOP (they've gone out of business). I've got an old article from Steelmasters (French magazine)dealing with this set. PM me if you are interested.
