I need ship railings in 1/35th scale, so I bought a bag of small dowels at Michaels and started experimenting.
I took a piece of balsa and drilled holes to hold the desired length, vertical railing pieces. Next I measured the top rail length and butt end glued the dowels together.
Next, anywhere the dowels met, I used a needle file to groove the ends so when glued to the vertical pieces they looked like they were welded to the verticals and top horiz. rail.
When finished I'll add some [ wet ] wall mud to the joints to simulate rust and corrosion.
Yes my German officer dudes were present to supervise.
Cheyenne
Get 10 sausages to hold the file, as in below photo
The meeting of horiz. wood dowels to vert. - should look good dressed up and painted.

That's very nice work on your boat - what's the story behind the setting?

Thanks Graham, kinda long story but I want to incorporate an Accurate Armor 1/35th sub, an Azimut s- boat, A.A. quaysides, an unlading freighter, a partially sunken freighter, all in a North African setting [ no specific place ].
Look at my album " One That Got Through " in my gallery and alot of the items are present.
Thanks again Graham, later - Cheyenne

Hi Cheyenne,
You are not yet retired ?? With all the work you are presenting here, you are damn close to retirement it seems, at least you have a lot of time to work on your projects!!
You are doing a tremendous job on this ship again, this will be a super dio.
I am wondering why you stopped working on the lift bridge dio ?
Cheers
Claude

Thanks Claude, usually during the week I build late at night after work, even on weekend nights.
The lift bridge dio is broken down and stored in my room [ too big ]. Hopefully when I retire and move, a 2 car garage, with [ studio loft ] will be a new home purchace requirement.
Jon, thanks man, I'm having alot of fun and frustration building it but wouldn't want to have it any other way. l.o.l.

Hi Cheyenne,
Nice job, it always amazes me how just adding one figure makes something spring to life.
Just keeps getting better.
Rails look good, a lot of patience required there, but a nice fit and will look just the job when painted.
Thanks for the update.
