How and when do you display your model. when do you decide that it will be part of a diorama or just part of the shelf?

Yup, both. Even if mine are destined for a diorama I have a few extra plain'ol bases that I display the kit on untill the diorama is ready.
I have mine displayed all over the house, my workshop, my den, my desk, my family room mantel (Diorama Campaign Dio made it there ), book shelf. I'm already scouting out a spot for my next kit.
As far as when do I decide if a kit will be in a diorama, before I get out of the hobby shop or before I make a bid or before I hit submit for an internet order. Some subjects just scream dio ideas and the voices in my head just have to listen. Gotta admit those voices have changed thier minds and combined a few dio ideas, but for the most part, the static vs. dio thoughts are pretty firm.

Everyones a bit different of course, but what I do is assume EVERY model is destined for a dio, it just may take years to get the dio done! By my figuring, at my current rate of speed, it should take me about 47 years to finish the dios for the kits that are already built. I hope someone is working hard on the fountain of youth thing

All my models get bases if they achieve the desired level of accuracy. If the model doesn't make it as I believe it could hyave,it becomes a test bed for colors, techniques and other badness.So,9 out of 10 make it to a base and that is conservitive on the side of actual bases used up.

If i am happy with my finished work i put it in a display case. Don't really have the time to build a diorama for every model so i jsut putthem in a cabinet

I just keep them on the move constantly... as soon as my wife says "What is that doing here?". I just move it to the open spot..

All of my finished kits go to a display case with the base of it simulating the terrain whwre the tank is suposed to be. Then to the shelf. The problems that I found in building dioramas for all the kits that I build are time and space. After a long time trying to resolve this problems I conclude that the better way for me will be to make two diferent dioramas (scenarios) where I can dysplay at least two or three kits in each one and change the kits in the dio time to time.

I don't have the time or space to build dioramalamadingdongs. I built shelves for our spare room to display all my models...I'm out of room....... again!!!!!!.the garage is probably the next place. I am down to my last 30-35 models left to build in my closet.....I better get to a show soon or I'll go crazy. What will I do without a FULL closet! Over and out.

Most, though not all, vehicles are free standing without a base or a diorama. All my figures have at least some groundwork and some sort of base, either a decoupage style plaque or a 2x2 stained block.

I have most of my armor on shelves in the computer room. The dust and chain smoking is playing h3ll with them. I really need a glass cabinet. I do have a couple of dioramas on display at a local American Legion post. Everyone enjoys them and they aren't getting the nicotine weathering the rest of them are getting...

Most of my models are on display bases. I like to put a figure with them, though, to give the vehicle some scale.

Some of my models have display bases and some don't. When I buy a model of an armor I usually try to envision it in a diorama. I prefer diorama's over stand alone pieces of armor so I try hard to incorpare them into dios. Things don't always work out that way.

I'm not really into big dioramas, but all of my models do get a base with some sort of groundwork to A) help set the scene and B) to keep fingers etc off the finished subject. I actually like cutting my own wood, either out of pine or oak. Then they all go into display cases.

I kind of like little Vignettes.

Thanks,
