what is this item in the box on the sides of the turrent on the M18 Hellcat..
It looks like its partly made of canvas
and whats it for..

It's the driver's foul weather hood. The driver could attach it to his driving position so he could have the hatches opened and still have some protection from the elements. There was one for the assistant driver as well.
