Greetings all,
I was watching the box last night and there was a programme about Mean Machines of War, anyway there was a chap who was interviewed who had been in the RASC and was a DUKW driver on D Day.
He stated that the initial loads carried ashore were mixed loads, a little petrol, rations, tank ammunition, rifle/ MG ammo, medical supplies etc. What might be seen as multi purpose, a little of everything they through would be most needed.
Just though I'd let you know as the concensus to my original enquiry leaned more towards load specific - these I now believe came later.
Cheers
Al

Hi I spoke to Vet DUCK driver last year he took the supplies for Lord Lovat ashore , and this is his comments all first loads ashore were Petrol , Ammo , Water , oil, and medical esp plasma . also this was stored with spare uniforms to give them out for those damaged in the run in by the troops landing in the first wave. Tthese uniforms acted as padding to the loads. He made 7 trips on D Day and the last one the Warspite fired its 16inch guns just over his head , the pressure wave in the air nearly sank him . I hope to be able to see him again this year at Beltring MV Rally cheers ian
