Hello everyone,
I am about ready to start a tank model. I'm not quite sure which one, I have about 20 of them. The question I have is I need to know how to mix up the proper color tan for, lets say a M1A1. Unfortunatly I have no money to buy any paints. But, I do have a very large selection of Tamiya acrylics. Also I have a couple of bottles of Tamiya tan. But as everyone knows it is slightly too dark. If anyone knows how to mix this up, please let me know as I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks
-Jay-

Your best bet is to scrounge up $3 and get the right shade from Model Master or PollyScale. Mixing is an iffy proposition. You have to get the proportions of 2 to 4 colors just right and make sure you have enough for the entire project or you're going to wind up trying to exactly match your first batch. This is also a problem if you need to touch something up late in hte process.

Try adding a little white or maybe a little yellow to the mix or a pale flesh color. I wouldn't know the ratio, but I would imagine it would be something anywhere from 1:10 to 1:6

I agree with AJ. The best match is Testors Model Master Sand, FS 33531.

Iraqi sand from Vallejo is pretty close too. I think it looks close enough... Maybe about a 50 50 mix of buff and khaki from Tamiya will get ya there or close.
But i would try to scrounge 3 bucks also and get some MM or Vallejo.
HTH herky
