Hello all,
I am trying to build a model of the truck I drove in Iraq. I took a few reference photo's but not enough of the LRASSS. If anyone can get me some pics from all sides or some deminsional copies from the -10 that would be awesome. I haven't seen any here in Korea and the NET hasn't yielded any good results either. Also I am looking for any manufacturers of SINCGAR's, all the kits come with the old FM's. Thanks in advance.

Dan,
Pro Art and MR Models are the only two companies that make SINCGARS, Pro Art being the best.

Whats the nomenclature of the LRASSS, M what? I have access to the ETM's here in my shop.

There are multiple pictures of it in Concord's Humvees in Iraq near the back of the book. The book is a little hard to come by, but is well worth it.

Theres a pitcture of one mounted on an M1026A1 in the Tankograd Guntrucks book, it looks like they are actually mounted next to the weapons mount. Pete-I dont reckon they have any actual nomenclature for this becuase by the looks of it is can be mounted onto any Humvee.

Sounds like a newer version of the M707 Striker which has since renamed Knight with the introduction of the Stryker IAV.

I don't think the put the LRAS3 on the M707, the Colt teams in the BDE had them. Yeah like the article said they used to be called Stykers then changed to Knights which pissed those guys off. They only had the VGLID mounted. The LRASSS is a far superior sight but can't designate on targets, although Raytheon said they were working on integrating one in.

Oh yeah Rob, I don't know why the Army hasn't given is a nomenclature, it might be because its in a stage of constant evolution and improvement. There are pictures out of the old model all under the same name. I was able to find the TM number, just because I wanted dimensional specs and a few more angles, but not an electronic version of the TM.

I work for raytheon and we are mounting the LRAS3 on the 1114, 1025, MRAP, and Bradley BFIST as well as the Stryker RV.
I am looking for Point of contact for those who used the LRAS in theater and can give me stories feed back. I need a guest speaker at Raytheon in Aug.

Well I think you guys are in luck, I just got back from Iraq, I am a Scout and I had the LRAS3 for my Platoon mounted on my M1151.
The LRAS3's nomenclature is the AN/TAS-8A. Its deminsions are 17.3" tall, 27.0" wide, 31.2" in length.
The LRAS3 could be mounted to anything, but it has to be mounted through a mounting kit, and also an additional battery box has to be mounted to support the LRAS3 for its operation so that it does not take away from the vehicle batteries. This proved to be a problem when my LRAS3 was hit during an IED in July last year, it did not get fixed until about April this year. Too many conflicts between the US Army and contractors I guess.
As far as the Knight goes. The sensor that is used is called the FS3 Fire Support Sensor System. It is basically the same as the LRAS3, but diffrent in its own way. It can also mount a LDM Laser Designatiing Modual. So thay way it can designated targets.
Here is a pic of the one that I trained on back at Fort Lewis.
Also you said that they are mounting LRAS3 to the BFIST? interesting, or is it the FS3??
