Yes the bow area is a little longer in the 2nd & 4th pics. [ didn't look quite right that short ] and yes that's a chopsaw in the 3rd pic.
Hopefully I'll have some more progress pics. tonight or tomorrow the bow will be built up more as in my ref. pics. but I'm going to add a small cabin just foward of the cargo deck, behind the cargo boom. The cargo deck is half planked so far and the aft cargo hatch will be modeled closed , with the foward one open unlading a PzII or so.
Thanks for looking and I hope to have pics. of the whole length done real soon.

Sorry Keith , give me about an hour, I have to recharge my digicam batteries.
Anyway I say go for it, build the Dunkirk dio, if you don't than I'll have to do one all by myself and that probably will take forever.
Your post gave me an idea and that's dangerous.
Don't worry about ships or boats with what I have in mind will work just fine.
With the multitude and range of crafts hauling soldiers off the beach, you could build a speed boat and it would fit, as long as it was a craft from the 30's.
I've been looking for an idea to use the boats I want to build, but could never find any WWII place to use them, .... bingo..... Dunkirk !
You build the dio, [ broken down trucks, cars, wagons, B.E.F. etc ]. I'll supply a ship or boat or two, [ I'll build them you can paint and weather them ]. Wait till you see these boats they are so cool and will fit in a Dunkirk scenario.
Let me know if your interested, and when my batteries are charged I'll post the pics.

Claude thanks man, I'll guess a year or so to completion.
Keith all of these boats [ ocean tugs included ] are Ditchburn boats, made in Canada on lake Muskoka.
These are pics. from a great book called, DITCHBURN BOATS, by Harold Shield and photos by Bev McMullen.
If it could be said I had a passion for anything it would be cars, trucks, planes and boats from the 30s.
Your mention of Dunkirk made me think, maybe some of these style of boats made the trip or trips to Dunkirk.
I would love to build some of these and if you're serious about a Dunkirk dio I'll make some boats for it.
If not thanks for the idea, it'll give me something else to build, l.o.l. , it allows me either way to build these boats and use them in a dio instead of putting them on a shelf to gather dust.
Let me know if your interested.

Great update.
If you've already addressed this sorry. Have you looked into a local musium displaying the end product? I bet its a real possibility.

Keith that's great, in all my reads on Dunkirk, pleasure craft to capital ships were involved.
Depending on how big you want to build, maybe the bow portion of some type of larger ship and some of these wonderful 30s pleasure craft, I'm sure England in this period had its share of similar Ditchburn looking boats.
The sea going tugs though were built in 1942 tho I believe.
Whatever you do, find some beach pics. and I'll comb my refs.
Cheyenne's boatyard is always open.
I'll start looking for stuff now.

i have a couple of rough ideas, i want to scetch out to give an idea of size
it is also an excuse to pick up another volume in one of my fav collections of books
Blitzkrieg in the West: Then and Now (After the Battle)
it should have a really good collection of pictures during and currently of the area, picked up from amazon bit pricey but generally worth the money
cheers

Cheyenne, I'm beginning to worry about the size of this dio...lol. It looks superb but where are you going to complete further models once you've completed it and your living room is a dock area :-) . I like the Dunkirk idea. A much ignored piece of history which is sad. (I'm working on a BEF dio at the moment).
What do you anticipate being the final size of the dio? I can't believe how quickly its progressing! Absolutely brilliant!
