I'm working on the Marder I. Reference picuture show that they placed some chain link fence on the gun shield. I've been trying to simulate this with wire, thread etc but with limited sucess. Any ideas??

Thanks

Hi Stephen

It's hard to tell without a reference picture, but maybe you can use wedding tulle. Several patterns and sizes are available, but chain link fence pattern is often hexagonal ("chicken wire" pattern)....

I've recently found a mosquito net that has an hexagonal pattern too..

Great idea for Chicken wire, thanks! The pattern on the Marder I appears to be diamond. I'll get a pic up when I get home.

Try window screening, there should be different gauges, spacings and materials available at your local hardware store/home center. Cut it on an angle and the squares become diamonds. I've even been able to stretch the screening to produce better diamond shapes before cutting.

Also, some of the etch manufacturers make mesh, brass and aluminum that could work well also, but are more expensive.

Hello Stephen,
I have a few of these pieces of mesh that came from Tamyia's M113 kit. They are to represent a chain fence, if you like you can have them. I have two left that your welcome to. They measure 3x5. PM if interested.

After I figure out how to post a pic I'll show the result..gulp

If you want fine screening like chicken wire, wedding veil (tulle) is the best choice--available in hexagonal and diamond patterns. A dollar's worth from a fabric store will last a lifetime. You might also look at the plastic screening sold in aquarium stores to segregate young fish from adults. For so-called "hurricane fencing" used to build perimeter fences, you need a larger screen--vinyl window screen is a possibility.
