Does anyone know where I can get 1/35 scale plans for scratchbuilding the weapons shields on Humvees being used in Iraq? I'm also interested in plans for any of the cupola armor kits that are in use in Iraq (I've seen at least three different kit configurations and several unit-manufactured versions). Thanks a lot!
Here's a link to a side view of an M1114 with one of the armor kits and a weapons shield:

I'm hoping to build a couple of Humvees with these modifications, but can't seem to find the info I need.

First off, welcome to Armorama.
As for the plans. I'm planning one too and one of our members, Pete Becerra (Epi) drew up some plans for both the front shield and the turret armor on the latest M1114s. If I know him, he'll pipe in within a day or so with all the help you need (I swear, we need to get together, contact his LT, and get that man a promotion for above and beyond!). If not shoot me a private message in day or so with you email, and I will send the drawings to you (since they are his, I figure I should let to get the first stab ).
Also if you are interested, Blast Models does a weapons set that includes an M1025 weapons ring and new front shield, M2, Mk19, M249, and smoke dischargers. Great service and a good add on to build.
One of our members did a review on the set, if you are interested.

Keep us updated if you deside to build one, and again, welcome to the Armorama!

Yup, Jeff was right, give me a day or two and I jumped in. But Jeff, thanks for refering Lucus to me, but I don't want to take the credit for the drawings. It was another fellow member (SOPMOD6--Arnold L.) who scratch built the armor for me.
I'm sure Arnold doesn't mind as long as we give him the credit for the work and as long as we don't mass produce them and sell them.
Lucas, shoot me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send them to you if Jeff hasn't already.
Oh yea, AND WELCOME TO ARMORAMA!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Pete, looks like I let the cat out of the bag! Thanks for letting me know who the drawings came from too, so thanks Arnold.
Maybe we could get him to make a feature out of the drawings?

some of those shields look very similar to the ones used in Nam for the Sheridan. Why are there so many antennae coming off the humvee? I count a minimum of 6 to 7. In my day even the Battalion command track only had 4, and one of those was for an aux.

Wow! Thanks for being so helpful, folks! I'm just coming back to model building after a ten-year hiatus, and it's great to have a community such as this one handy. I may be hitting you guys up for more help with my Humvee project. Right now I'm thinking of modifying the Tamiya M1025 with Eduard's ASK photoetched kit (sold as the M1026 add-on armor kit) and adding the gun shied and cupola armor. I'm also toying with the idea of trying to scratchbuild a Red Dot A/C unit for the Humvee, but I think that may be significantly beyond my modeling skills, rusty as they are now.
As for why the particular M1114 I posted a link to has so many antennas, as far as I can tell (from what the guy posting the pics mentions in the captions) this vehicle is a dedicated radio platform or may be involved in DFing intercepts. I certainly won't try to tackle this specific vehicle for my project, though--I have no clue what the innards would even look like!
Thanks again for the help.

Hey Pete why not post the shield drawings/plans in the thread here, that's if it's all right with Arnold (SOPMOD6). That way there's less PM and if someone in the furture is in need, and doing a search they'll be on hand.

By the way, I've test built the cupola armor and it goes together great. The only problems I've had with the whole thing is figuring out the cross bar. While I have a lot of pictures of the outside from various angles, I have had a hard time finding good interior shots of the armor and of the crossbar. So for those that are just getting the plans, the best I've found on the crossbar is linked below.
For great reference shots, I recommend going to www.army.mil/armyimages and using a keyword search of "M1114", "Humvee," "Uparmored," and "HMMWV" as well as www.webshots using the same keywords. Google and Yahoo provide limited results.

Chris, send me your e-mail address and it will be on the way.
Joe, I haven't seen Arnold on here for a while. Once in while, I will see him pop in. I will PM him and hope he responds before I post the drawings.
Well, here is a question for you guys: Ok, Arnold researced the armor and casted upa couple and sent me two of them. So what I did was just measure the one he sent me and put it down on paper. So, should I get Arnolds permission to post it or not and just give him the credit. But in the mean time, I will still PM him and ask.

Ok guys, I sent Arnold an e-mail and a PM. I'm gonna post this here for you all and just give Arnold(SOPMOD6) the credit for looking up the infor and casting one for me. All I did was just measure and drew it up.

While looking for research photos, I found a site that had an OK picture of the crossbar in a PDF file.
