Hi. I saw that some US Airborne troops in WW2 had magazine holders for their Thompson mags on their chests, generally one set on each side. Are these just the magazine holders seen worn on waist belts, and simply moved up to the chest? Thanks.

I'm fairly certain these are the same pouches. I've seen photos of troopers, mostly pathfinders wearing them this way. Sometimes riggers would modify and manufacture gear for the Paratroops, but I think what you describe is the same as the one worn on the belt.
