I'm making my first effort at building a shadowbox and following the instructions offered by Shep Paine in How to Build Dioramas. For various reasons I want to provide power to my lighting source with batteries instead of the usual wall outlet approach. I know very little about electricity (other than lightnign bolts are dangerous and how to flip a light switch). I've been doing some reading and bought some battery holders, bulbs, and LEDs from Radio Shack. So far my attempts have provided disappointingly dim lights.
I'm curious to see if anyone on the forum has built a shadowbox, how they dealt with lighting, any tips, etc?
Worst case scenario I'm thinking a mini-flashlight and a mirror to redirect the light.
Many thanks!

Your flashlight approach is close. If you need really bright lites powered by battery try to find RayoVac T1AAA High Intensity bulbs in the flashlight section, I found mine at WalMart. They are bright and are made to be powered by 1 AA or AAA battery. Be prepared to do some soldering, unless you can find a socket to fit them.
Not exactly a shadowbox, but close ? One bulb, one AA battery, no reflector.

Wow, that looks pretty powerful. Did you do your own wiring for that?

Can't really call it wiring, I just ran to wires from the bulb to the battery holder :-)
P.S. Just for reference, the "pit" is 4 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep.
