i've heard a lot of great things about future floor wax and how versatile it is. i was planning to buy one next time i'm in the hobby shop but i recently read that future will ruin a tamiya acrylic paint job. problem is i use tamiya acylics almost exclusively. can someone please enlighten me? i'm getting ready to paint and add decals to my second model and am a little anxious...

I use a similar product called Johnsons clear (its a clear liquid) that is designed for floors I have just used this over some tamiya acrylic on a starfighter and it was fine i left the tamiya paint about a day to dry then airbrushed the Johnson clear and everything went well.

thanks a lot! will buy some future tomorow. that should give the tamiya paint some more time to dry. i understand johnsons clear and future floor wax are the same. johnsons clear (or is it klear?) is for the UK market. thanks again. really appreciate it!

I use original Future over Tamiya acrylics all the time and never had any problems with it.

Actually British Klear and American Future are not the same product. Klear has a bit milky color in the bottle, while Future is perfectly clear. But they work the same on the model and Klear dries clear

Hi Rovik.
I use Klear over everything, inclucing Tamiya acrylics and have never had any problems. I brush it on with a flat soft brush.Go slowly and carefully to avoid any air bubbles, but if you do get any just brush a bit of water over them and the some more Klear/Future.
Heres a recently finished model that was painted with Tamiya acrylics and coated in Klear.

Hope this helps.
Happy modelling!

I use future on Tamiya with no problems at all. I usually spray it on but for small applications I have brushed it on. No problems.

The key thing for future/clear is drying time, At least 48 hours, 72 hours or 3 days ensures fully cured acrylic

I'm too imatient for that.

I've sprayed Klear over Acrylic within half an hour with no bad effects.

Me To

Never had problems either, with all these people having no problems makes you wonder what happened to the person that actually did have a problem i.e. what caused it???

thanks everyone for the replies! i went back to the feature i read and it seems i simply misunderstood the article. turns out the author did in fact say that you should give the paint and later, the future, adequate time to dry. my bad. it was really dumb of me to just skim through the article like that. i just hope i didn't confuse any other novice modelers out there.

hey murdo,

seems we have the same problem: too little patience. modeling is teaching me that it does indeed pay to wait though.

nigel,

nice plane! i guess that should put the whole issue to rest. thanks for sharing the pic.

What you really mean is that you roll out of bed, take 2 asprin for the hangover and then apply it to boots that were brush polished 5 minutes before; then rush out of the door to arrive just in time for muster parade.
