Does anyone know where to get good and affordable wooden bases for figures? Specifically I'm looking for the taller pedestal or riser bases that sometimes come in rosewood. The wood type itself is not that important just the riser action. I found a few sites online but they are expensive with the pedestal bases going for $30-40! Is there any cheaper source that anyone knows about or do I just have to shut up and pony up if I want the nice bases.

Thanks in advance.

There was a thread a week or two back showing the use of a cut down table leg in unstained wood. You can get any shade of stain at a carft or paint store. I use 2 inch wooden cubes from Michael's at just over a dollar a piece. I stain them wih MinWax before building up the ground work.
No, there's not the fancy burl and exotic grains, but they get the job done and my work had gotten recognition in figure, AMPS and IPMS events.
Inexpenssive bases
