Were they used solely by the British or by other Commonwealth countries such as Canada.
I am guessing that they came under the 79th Armoured umbrella. Does anyone know which Regiments would have had them?
Thanks for any information.
Cheers
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
I'll be back in the UK Friday evening all being well. There was mention of them in the documents I copied from the National Archives about the Rhine Crossing so for the Brits 79th Armd Div would be right, but by that time they were worn out or not available in sufficient numbers.
I have some other stuff I'll check when I get back. Another Canadian Vehicle????? :-) :-) :-)
Here's a link to the original article I posted:

Can't remember if I sent you this one or not.
Cheers

Ps You don't happen to have a Revell 1/35 UDT Boat in your stash????? - more boats :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Kevin,
A plan and article for the Mark II appeared in our Bi-monthly periodical Tankette; hopefully it’s still available as a back issue. You require Volume 17/3.
Back Issues (if available) from: President Gary Williams at [email protected]

Terrapins were produced in relatively small numbers and i'd imagine they were only used by British units in 79 Armd Div. I can check on which units used them.
There's one in a very poor state of repair at the former Melbourne Tank Museum but I have no idea how it came to be in Australia. Possibly a trials vehicle but more likely a war surplus purchase.

Jim,
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Alan,
Hope the trip proved fruitful?
And how did you know it was a Canadian vehicle?
John,
Thanks for the Tankette reference. I will bear it in mind for future reference.
The reason for the original question was that I came across a photo of "Ceres", "Corus" being the only other photo I've seen, on the National Archives of Canada. It has 79th Armoured markings but no other visible indentifying markings.
I believe "Corus", P5518598, belonged to 82nd Assault Squadron, 1234 on pale blue being the AoS.
Cheers

I know they were used during the operations to liberate Walcheren, Holland (my favorite war subject)
Got a pic in Concords "British Tanks in World War 2 vol.2" which shows a Terrapin of the 82nd squadron in 5th assault regiment of the 79th armoured division.

Hi Martin,
I have a book by Ken Ford called D Day Commando that contains and interesting section on the Landings On Walcheren. It's a general history of 48 Comdo and their role from D Day to Wars end.
ISBN no is 0-7507-4004-2 if you're interested. I'm using it as the basis for my D Day landing dio, very interesting read despite the naff title.
Cheers
